I'm just wondering if anyone had write off breast augmentation or FFS in their taxes ? I spent well over the 7.5% agi in FFS and Breast Augmentation in 2011 just trying to decide if I can use the deductions as a necessary medical expense..

If I'm not mistaken, medical expenses are not tax deductible...

I believe they are here in the U.S. I have a friend who is claiming her surgery, and I have been able to claim my wife's medical expenses.

Operations deemed medically necessary can be deducted if they are accumulated to be over a certain amount for itemized deductions... this includes SRS/GRS/GCS, AND hormones, as was ruled on 02/03/2010 by the Supreme Court in the O'Donnabhain vs. IRS case.

Breast augmentation and FFS are NOT currently considered to be "Medically Necessary" and are still listed as elective cosmetic surgery for transgendered patients.

Is that categorically true, though? My understanding of the O'Donnabhain case was that she lost those claims because she failed to produce any evidence from her doctors that said they were medically necessary for her. My understanding is that it all hinges on the fact that the SoC prescribes it only if your HRT doc (or surgeon) determines that HRT is clearly not enough. In fact, the court heard evidence from her BA surgeon stating outright that he considered her breast development quite satisfactory beforehand.
