Chemical hair straightening gone wrong?

I went to a salon last Friday, and a young woman there chemically straightened my hair.  Before I left, she put gel in my hair and kind of teased it.

I followed the rules by not getting my hair wet for 2 full days and then washed and conditioned it.

It's still not straight!  It curls at the front and is all wavy at the back!

Did she do something wrong?  Also my hair has been straightned in the past and i worked fine (japanese straightening).

I guess what I'm asking is in your opinion, do you think that it was deliberate or just bad luck that the straightening didn't work right?

My hair is on the shorter side but it still cost me $65 to have it straightened and I feel that a complaint may be in order, but I don't know.

I would doubt it's deliberate. But, yes, you should go back and ask "why is my hair still curly after it was straightened?"

Don't be all angry and stuff, things like this generally turn out better if you just present as you want it made the way you wanted (and paid for).
...I think for most of us it is a futile effort to try and put this genie back in the bottle once she has tasted freedom...

Yeah, go back and show them the curls/waves. I'm not sure what they can do to fix the problem but maybe they can reimburse you? Hopefully you don't do this often as chemical treatments like this are bad for your hair.

It sounds under processed. Generally the back of the head takes more time to process than the hairline and the crown. I'd go back and ask if they'll correct it. They probably will, free of charge.

And BTW, yes chemical treatments are bad for your hair. They're addictive too, as relaxers permanently straighten your hair, and with new growth you're going to want to touch it up or it'll look a bit off. Be very careful with these relaxers.

.... Wait, Japanese Straightening? So you've had a relaxer on your hair before? Girl you're playing with fire...

I'd love to see a picture... at first I was thinking "relaxer with curls.. underprocessed" ... but then I read "Japanese Straightening" and went.. oh crap.

You really need to be careful about NOT getting relaxers done to the sections of hair that have had chemical treatments done before. They should ONLY be applying that chemical to the new growth.

Here's some reality for you: many "chemical straighteners" or relaxers, or "perms" (permanent straighteners, not permanent waving or curling) .. all 3 are the same things) are made of sodium hydroxide. Sodium hydroxide is what is used in Nair and other hair removal products. Over processing will literally melt your hair...

I use hair straighteners on my hair as my hair is naturally curly. The hair straighteners seem to work very well but years ago in the past I did try the type of methods you mention which were un successful and can damage your hair far more than straighteners.

Oops, haven't been here for a bit.  I have a update:

I am at the salon right now as I type and they are doing it again, free of charge.  Hopefully it works this time...

As for the Japanese straightening, it worked wonderfully and I had that done 4.5 years ago.  Sorry about the confusion, thanks all for the feedback!

Ahh okay, so chances are none of the relaxer used in the japenese straightening is still in your hair. Ok :)

Since they're fixing it, I assume it was under processed. That's a relief :)

How'd it turn out??

What I meant to say is I use electric ceramic hair straighteners on my hair not chemicals!

I use flat irons too... but my hair is naturally pretty straight.

ugggghhhh.
UNGRATEFUL!

Just kidding.
My mother straightens her hair everyday even though she has way naturally straighter hair than I do.
Meanwhile I have to go at battle with the sheep that grows out of my scalp with a singeing hot tool if I ever want to hang out with anybody and not embarrass them.

Aww... im not jealous that you have really curly hair. But you do a good job with your hair. I likey :)

I only straighten it when i shampoo. Thats 1-2 times a week. I have very dry hair. Hormones have really stopped my oil production lol!

I like my curly hair now. I used to fight it and it was a pain to keep up, but now I just put some mousse on it while damp, scrunch it a little and then after it air dries, scrunch a tad more and I'm done. Flat hair on me doesn't look all that great anyway.

I love my curly hair now as well. Before, I hated it with a passion. I would straighten it everyday with a flat iron and that damaged my hair so bad that I had to get it all cut off. Now my hair goes down to my mid-back and it looks so healthy. I use a smoothing serum and silk product that I put on right after washing my hair and I like to use a diffuser to dry my hair 75% and then let the rest air dry. It ends up looking really nice with a lot of volume. I hate flat hair as well.

Well, its a little more straight than it was, but still wavy at the back-not too bad though.  Its acceptable for now, they said my hair needs to be longer so that the weight of it will help pull it down more straight.  Makes sense I guess; my hair is only about 4" long right now or so.

Like others have suggested I may try a straightener that I can use for myself in another 3-4 months.
