Any one on Spiro experience any types of chest pain?
I started Spiro last friday, pains started maybe sunday ish. Its mostly around the center of my chest few inches below collar bone on the left side, but it does move too, sometimes in in the muscle around the outside area of my chest, mostly all on the left side of me mostly. Its a sharp throbbing pain, as i right this its right around my sternum area. it doesnt feel like its inside my chest cavity and when its on the sides far sides atleast i can feel it in the muscle.

went to the hospital today, all my vital were fine, doctor said my blood work was fine, had an x-ray, i assume that was fine too as nothing was mentioned about it. im calling my normal doctor tomorrow see if i cant get in to see her next week. but that might not happen, shes at basically a clinic, if anyones familiar w/ Mazzoni, in Philly. ive been seeing a doctor there. but we'll see, hopefully i dont have to stop the spiro. that would be kinda sucky.

I have not experienced this, and it may not be related. You are doing the right thing about talking to your doc.

Sprio is a pretty safe drug, I have not heard of anyone being intolerant to it. Most problems come from salt depletion or having too much potassium. But you have just started so it is unlikely to be that.

I don't know how old you are but one possibility it is your heart, so worth getting checked out.

One thing to try - take antiacids.  Those spiro pills don't go down so easy, you might have a bit of heart burn as a result - which can feel like you are describing.  So give that a go, and see your doc soon.

I agree with Nicole, Spiro is pretty safe and you have done the right thing by getting checked. Spiro is a diuretic, so you will be losing water, so increase your fluids a bit. Of course you will still pass them more quickly but you might have to find a happy balance.

If you get pain or tingling in your arms, or your calves start to cramp and feel sore to the touch call an ambulance, you may be developing a DVT which is a side affect. But after all that don't panic,  ::)

I would recommend checking your blood pressure if your blood pressure is unusually low and your heart unusually slow then you might be suffering a potassium overload I've have very similar encounters.

i did spend all day at the hospital just about, they did do an ekg too, but since they didnt mention anything about it i assume it was fine too, said all my blood work was fine, even did some test on my blood for clots which the doctor said was fine too. so, idk. if blood is fine, body is fine, why the pain then. >.> /confused.

i was thinking it might prolly be my water intake, i don't drink fluids nearly as much as i should and when i do its either mt dew, or sweetened tea from the fountain soda dispenser at work, so ive been drinking more water, and its seemed to help alittle, not much the pains are still there.

and never heard of indegestion or heartburn causing muscle pains.

i have been kinda gasy and constipated too, idk if thats usual or not either.

anywhos. ty guys.

It could be so many different things from heart trouble to acid reflux to muscle spasms or anxiety. Prolly need to keep working with your doctor until you can pin it down.

I am not currently on HRT (it's on my roadmap, just not there yet), but I had symptoms a couple years back that seemed like a possible heart attack. I awoke from a nap feeling lightheaded and disoriented. Started to feel a flutter in my chest. I felt nauseous so I ran to the bathroom and promptly vomited. The flutter turned into rapid heartbeat and I broke out in a cold sweat. After sitting for a bit and doing some deep breathing, it lessened. My wife took me to the ER and everything checked out fine. Eventually, we (my doctor and I) pinned the episode down as a full-on panic attack brought on by an unusually stressful week. I had been coping okay until the stress ended, then the nap relaxed me to the point where all that stress hit home and triggered the panic attack.

Since then, I've felt similar attacks come on a few times. I do my deep breathing exercises and they fade away.

Sounds like a simple case of the nerves.  You are just starting a new path of life starting with the spiro.  Chest pains is a common anxiety symptom.  You did the right thing by getting this checked out.

When I started spiro, for the first month or so, I'd get these aches that felt like they were coming from my ribcage itself. The muscles in my upper back would especially hurt. I always figured it was part of the muscle "re-tuning" that comes with HRT, so I never paid it any mind.

I probably should have talked to my doctor. You probably should too.

Around month 7ish I had pain in what seemed like my sternum. I figured it was just cartilage shrinking ~shrug~

And a month or two later I had pain right under the breasts (it seemed like it was my ribs).

It could have been a billion things. I might have slept on it strange or hit it on something or ... well... anything.

The same with leg cramps or pain. If you get paranoid and start running to the emergency room every time your leg gets sore, you will drive yourself crazy and spend a TON of money (if my leg has a little pain in it, I rub it and take an aspirin).

I have been on hormones for a year now, and there have been a lot of strange little things that come and go... if something major happens (like you faint or your leg swells up) THEN worry... but don't freak out over little stuff.

Of course, mention these things to your doctor... get checked out like you did... but if they aren't finding anything, just relax a bit and try not to stress :)

Yeah, just all new to me, ive never even been on a single med other than maybe the occasional ibuprofen for the rare headache.
Start the spiro, couple days later im having pains kinda sharp ones, just alil unsettling, then you start thinking, and thinking, all the while the pains arent going away. Then the thinking turns to worry, and well yeah. >.<

I do like Joelene's idea the best tho >.> lol. love for it to be just a case of anxiety.

Just odd that all the pains have been on the left side... even a couple in my arm, right under the underarm or in the forearm. even a couple in the calf too, but all of them go away after a few moments. sometimes it takes a good rub on the area, but go away none-the-less. but overall they arent happening as frequently as they were early in the week. which is a good thing i assume.

anywhos. ty all for you input. <3

as already mention

spiro can cause potassium issues if you are unaware of its properties in you normal dieting

always a good idea to have chest pains checked

I second Rabbit's post, all the things she mentioned had happened to me and there's no reason to panic, I think.

But if you get severe pain in parts of your body, or you get swelling / extreme warmth in a limb, those are all indications that you need to visit a doctor ASAP.

QuoteSpironolactone is associated with an increased risk of bleeding from the stomach and duodenum, but a causal relationship between the two has not been established.
If bleeding is possible, heartburns certainly are, IMO. And a heartburn can look like cardiac pain. Also, I don't think they would see it in bloodwork if you were actually unlucky enough to have stomach bleeding/pains this soon. Not everything always shows in blood.

It could also be the shadow of hyperkalamia (excess of potassium), which has cardiac symptoms. Reduce your potassium intake (bananas, among other fruits and vegetables, contain a lot) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hyperkalemia

It's probably nothing serious, but ask a health professional to do checks, just in case.
