Sigh. If it weren't for singing, I would transition in a heartbeat. I have a good voice, and sometimes my dream is all that keeps me sane. Yes I know that there's plenty of male actors and singers, but it's not quite the same as my female related dream. I've spent so much time and effort to get to where I am now in my singing dream. It's the only thing stopping me from transitioning. If I transition, yes, I want full hormones, I want top and bottom surgery, and I want to live as male. And that wouldn't allow me to pursue my female singing career. I feel trapped no matter which path I choose. If it weren't for singing, aaaaaagh.  :-\  :(

This may seem odd but can you do your singing career first and once you feel fulfilled in that transition?

I was sorta thinking about that. I suppose, but by then I could be 30, and I'd like to get my younger years out of transitioning. Plus, I do have bad chest dysphoria, which makes me wish I could transition right now.

Maybe you could get a breast reduction if your chest is large enough.  It could curb some of the dysphoria.

I don't really understand what you mean by "female singing dream" - as in you want to be a female popstar or performer?  Is it the female register you enjoy or the whole package of being a female singer/performer?  Unfortunately, it's a choice that only you can make.

You could learn to sing as a guy, like all guys do once they hit puberty and their voice drops, if they had been singing prior to that.

I actually hear of a lot of guys choosing not to take hormones for this reason and it's odd to me.  But whatever, your choice.  Just got to figure out... is it worth the sacrifice?

This. Seriously, I don't get it either. There's this guy on youtube that was a good singer pre-T and was going to put off medical transition because he didn't want to lose his talent. Well, guess what? I found his YouTube this past week and he sounds AMAZING. Way better than pre-T even. I feel like a lot of guys refuse to work with their voice change (resulting in a nasally or stereotypically 'gay' sounding voice). But if you take your time to practice your craft as your voice drops, you should be fine. I don't think you should put off transition just because you're worried you won't be able to sing anymore.

What is it about being a female singer specifically that you enjoy?  I sort of know how you feel.  I have a tenor range, and I'm afraid of losing the few high notes that I can reach.  (I already have to drop an octave while singing along with some guys :/ )However, for me it would be worth it to have a normal speaking voice and a stronger low range.  Everything has pros and cons.  If your voice is worth it then maybe you could focus on other ways to make you less dysphoric (working out, chest reduction, voice lowering exercises, etc).

Kyle, who is the guy you mentioned?  Hearing guys on T really helps ease my fears.
Oh I'm a lucky man to count on both hands the ones I love

if you end up like Madonna you'll be 130!

30 is the new 20. FTMs generally look younger so you probably won't look it. 30 isn't that old anyway.

You mean you're afraid of losing your female singing voice? I think you could keep your female voice, you would have to exercise your vocal cords like mtf's do and it would be really hard especially hitting those high notes but I think it could be done.

I had a nice singing voice too.
It didn't stop me from transitioning.
I just thought of it this way:

I'm a guy. My singing voice is not in male range, so if I'm a guy, why would I want to sound like a girl any longer?

As others have said, bio-males also have to adjust to their new voice when they hit puberty.
I've been working on my singing voice now as often as I can.
It's slowly getting better and starting to sound a bit more like I always thought it should.
Meow.

justin bieber probably..
-------------
I also had a very pretty female voice pre T..
in a way I loved it very much, because I was able to get the high vs low tones I loved, specially while singing some kind of folk songs where you pull your voice up and down all the time.

I do love singing but its not my greatest dream, and I did deside to get on T because I had to choose whatever I would live without T or take T and have my voice change, there would be a change I could lose it, or maybe it would just make it better. In a way I was also very unconfortable with my voice because it was female which kept myself away from singing once in a while.

the choice of taking T or not is for everyones own time, when there ready and of corse if they want. we do put time or money to get it, and theres alot of effects or side effect to get where we must deside if we want to sacrifice that or not.

ex, theres also alot of people who get acne, pre T I had a very pretty skin so I should consider if I would be okay even if my skin got alot of zits, luckely it didnt but youll see my point.
-------

I fell it totally fine if you dont want T, now or later, however I also wonder exact what your fearing with your voice,
for fearing of having a male singing voice, or a more maculine voice, then I agree, that you cant really get on T and have a as femenine voice you had as before..

but if your just generally nervous for your voice, or for reaching high tones, then its posible to take T in a low dose, where you will have more controll over your voice and so.

one ftm I know are doing so, because he also very scared of losing his voice, maybe I can get him to contact you if your interesting in hearing about it?

I think he knows english?

Perhaps you could transition without the T and go for a more androgynous look?  You could get top surgery in the mean time and have a flat chest while still keeping your voice and when you are finally ready take T and get your bottom surgery.

I don't know. Maybe It's particular female roles I've been wanting to play since I was 10. I remember falling in love with their voices and the beautiful stories about them and the actresses having glamorous lives. It just won't be the same if I transition.

Well if you wanna be a guy it's a package deal, you don't really get to pick part female and part male.

It sucks though. Imagine how a woman like me feels about my voice. I open my mouth and have to try so friggin' hard just to even get a fraction of the clear, soft, pretty tone that a cis girl thinks nothing of. At least I'm a tenor I guess. It's so demoralizing to have to listen to countertenors and whatever and think that all I have to look forward to is a one-color, loud tone. Ugh  :(

But if you wanna be a guy you can just sing like any other guy in a male range. It's not "worse" just because it's an octave lower. I guess. Wouldn't the male roles be more interesting to a guy?

No offense to anyone else, but, i dont like the androgyne label. i feel as though i need to fall under a male or female label, else i'll drive myself crazy. again sorry if that offended anyone

I know how you feel, had exactly the same problem pre T, I barely liked to open my mouth in front of strangers and even if I did I felt the need to try hard to make my voice deeper and more maculine..

Also, remember that your voice doesn't change over night and you can work with it as it changes.

I really don't understand all this "Well.....I don't understand how you can put your FEMALE singing voice over transition and T and blah blah blah". More gender policing crap. Listen, if you want to keep your voice and choose not to go on T, some people do that. It's up to YOU, not the trans* community. Do what YOU want.
