wanna add to my answer, the main character in Pursuit of Happyness Chris Gardner, because I really admire him because he never made excuses to get where he got.  His bosses didnt even know he was homeless for a time and he still got the job and worked his ass off and never complained or had a pity party because of it.

I have a few characters I'd choose from.

One of my favorites is Queen Tamir/Tobin from Lynn Flewellings Tamir triad. She is such an awesome/strong character!


Another one I love is Althea Vestrit from Robin Hobb's liveship traders trilogy. Again, another strong female character that has substance.



And one from television is Elim Garak. I don't envy the life he has led or how he is the last I read about him, but he is just such an interesting character! I am just drawn to him for some reason <3
