When I make pulled pork I use a can of root beer and just enough water to cover the meat and seasonings and let it go overnight in a crock pot. Felix has mentioned cooking brisket in Coke, which I now have to try myself! I tried making carrots in ginger ale once but it didn't come out as expected. Got any recipes? Hugs, Devlyn

My ex-wife likes to use 7-up in her Thanksgiving turkey basting recipe. I don't think I have a copy of it, so I'll ask her for it.

I found the following recipe on the 'net years ago, but I didn't take not of the URL.

Chicken Wings with Cola

4 pounds chicken wings
10 ounces Coke
1 cup brown sugar
garlic powder
onion powder
1 tablespoon soy sauce

Place meat in shallow casserole.  Pour mixture of Coke, sugar and soy sauce over all.

Sprinkle with garlic and onion powders.

Bake at 325 for 3-4 hours or until liquid has evaporated and become sticky.

Those sound excellent. I know coke can break down the fibers of tough meat. We use a lot of pineapple or mango to do the same job.

But that recipe for Connie Amme sounds really interesting.

Dev, you'll be happy to know that I am slow-cooking my bone-in pork shoulder today (Cinco de Mayo) with 12 oz of cola.  I'm making pork carnitas.

Thanks for the germ of the idea!
