I wonder whether you could also make it from one of those silicone sheets that are used for cooking - lining pans, or something a bit thicker used as a hotpad. I don't know whether it could be glued easily, but it's something to try for the guys into R&D.
The kitchen-aisle silicone would also be good for the "coffee lid" STP device, which is just a circle of plastic that you roll into a cone shape when you are ready to use it. Not as focused as this one, but another option. And very cheap.
