I'm planning on moving sometime this summer to California so i've been looking around for places that are friendly towards the LGBT community. Preferably somewhere in L.A. but i'm open to any suggestions. 

 

San Francisco. Is this even up for debate?

It's honestly the safest place for us. Really. L.A. is far more dangerous. Although more big time porn happens down there, I think... so if you're in that business, then maybe L.A. >.<

Well obviously San Francisco lol. I can't afford to live there though, houses and apartments are kinda pricey over there.

About L.A., I've heard Northern L.A. is pretty LGBT friendly but idk I guess there are ->-bleeped-<-s anywhere you go.

What about San Diego? I'm just asking cause I kinda wanna live there someday, lolz.

Also I'm sure you could afford to live in San Francisco if you got a job there lolz.

  Yeah but the rent there for houses and apartments is outrageously high compared to other area's of California which is why I said I can't afford it. 

I'm in LA (hollywood) and haven't noticed anything negative ... i see trans girls around now and then (and of course, tons of gay guys ... or I suspect they are gay guys ).

Rabbit's right, LA is trans friendly and you are pretty much guaranteed to bump into them at coffee shops, malls, etc. Trans event (trans pride, DOR, stuff like that) usually have crowds of hundreds. Yes, the porn industry is here. Yes, trans escorts are all over the place. But it's affordable and you can't beat the weather. West Hollywood is expensive. Look into the area just north of Sunset and East of Highland, it's cheaper than WeHo and not too far. Also, the Valley is cheaper but why live so far from the action. So much to do! Plus, Rabbit and I will welcome you to town with flowers and smiles

That area will run you like $750 - $1,500 a month for an apartment and like $400 - $900 for a room depending on how big you want it and where it's located. The Hills are nice, if it's really the hills. This is representative of kinda quirky hills place for $900:

lol, it's okay. As soon as I put myself out there, and actually start going to things that people invite me to, I might find myself with friends. But as long as I lock myself in my room, I won't.

Still, for someone like me... someone with "issues", this city is a great place to kind of venture out of your bubble. I mean, bad things happen everywhere... but at least here, it's just a little safer, the people are just a little nicer.

My daughter and her boyfriend live in San Francisco in the Richmond District one block from Golden Gate Park, they rent a real nice two bedroom house with a garage for 2,500 month, she has lived alone in other places around town and has payed between 600 and 1,100 for studio apts.  Both of them work in upscale restaurants and so far haven't had to much trouble affording to live in SF
Some of her girlfriends share 3 or 4 bedroom apts and when the rent gets split 4 ways its quite affordable, craigslist always had "roomate" listings (be cautious of course)

there is probably no city more friendly towards us than SF, while there I see trans folk out and about and working at all sorts of places around town...for the most part the locals are quite accepting

The Bay area also offers lots of things to see and do! fantastic beaches, lots of scenic hiking trails and cultural things galore to enjoy.

  I heard people in San Fransico are kinda smug...oh no wait that was in that south park episode lol. I wouldn't mind moving there but it's just not in my budget atm. =P

Humboldt county (tall redwoods) 200 miles north of san fran is super friendly and open minded and yet there are very few TS there. I lived there for 2 yrs from 2004 to 2006 and lived there pretransitioning too back in 70 to 71 then 74 to 81 ..it has mostly hippies there.. Myself i tend to steer clear of places without many trees for shade.. skin cancer is bad news.. for light skined people like me..

the local radio station mentions lesbian gay bisexual transgender at least 5 times a day www.kmud.org

But good luck passing in SF. Born females are clocked as being trans there..  lol

I live in So Cal kinda out of the way in the Inland Empire area, as much as I love Cali and wish I could live in San Fran I'm actually leaving for Seattle if things work out by end of the year.

Just wanted to say good luck and that LA can be pretty awesome.

I know Long Beach (Belmont) used to have a pretty active lesbian scene.  Santa Monica, Venice, and the West Side, too, seemed trans-friendly to me.

I am in Ventura County, with no support groups, and one gay friendly bar.
