Transgender woman found murdered in Chicago

A transgender woman has been found apparently murdered in West Garfield Park, Chicago, according to the National Coalition of Anti-Violence Programs.

Paige Clay, 23, was found in an alley was found in an alley on the 4500 block of West Jackson on Monday at 3:52 a.m.

Police did not identify Clay. Rather, several community members confirmed her identity to Windy City Times. According to reports, Clay received services at local LGBT agencies and was known in Chicago's ball scene.

According to police, Clay suffered a gunshot wound to the head. No one is custody. Area North Detectives are investigating.

A social worker at Taskforce Prevention and Community Services, is organizing a community event to call for answers in the murder of Paige Clay, a transgender woman who was killed on the city's West Side on Monday morning.

Brian Turner, the organizer, said the motivation for this event is also due to the dissatisfaction over the police investigation.

"My main reason for doing this is because it seems like it is in the process of being swept under the mat," he said.

The local rainbow community is thanks to the Taskforce is coalescing behind an effort to get that vitally needed information that may be the key to solving Clay's murder.

Due to the tragic April 16th murder of 23-year-old Paige Clay, a Chicago-area transgender women whose death has left us all in shock and demanding justice from the authorities, NCTE has cancelled its May 1 event in order to support a community response to Paige's murder.
