This thread disturbs me.

Some of the comics linked in this thread mock the very pain and suffering I myself have endured so far in my transition. If others have endured such suffering and can now look back on it an laugh, great. However, there are those of us for whom these pains are still too new. This is a support site, let's try to avoid posting material that mocks people's suffering.

I fail to see why the very real pain I've endured is a source of amusement for others.

The comic does go to some darker places... but, I don't believe it is in a mocking way. You have to understand, the point of the comic is to entertain... to address subjects with a bit of humor.

Becoming offended or suggesting sensorship of negative subjects only shuts down the possibility that those suffering will find they aren't alone and that many experience the same things...

Really, when you are suffering from the darker sides of transition it is rather comforting to know you aren't alone.

Ignoring a problem or trying to eliminate the dialogue of a problem doesn't make it go away... (actually, that has been societies approach with LGBT people for a very long time).

I love trans comics.  There was one online years ago, I forgot the name of it but it was very cute.

I love transgirldiaries. It was one of the first things I found on the internet that made it not seem so damn scary to be trans. To find some humour amid all the pain was... empowering (if I can get away with using such a pretentious word). I've never felt like it was mocking our suffering... if anything, it's about celebrating our survival of all the ->-bleeped-<- we deal with.

I think some of them were funny and some were stupid but I never felt mocked.
We must move forward... not backwards, not to the side, not forwards, but always whirling, whirling, whirling towards freedom.

My mindless babbling are my own opinions and nothing more.

I like them as well :)
But then again, I even like humour that laughs at my own race... :P

I don't mean to start a fight, but I saw many, many of the comics a few nights ago, and whilst some weren't funny - but certainly not offensive - I think that if someone is going to be seriously hurt by reading them, then they've got to be either very recluse or seriously hurt daily...

I really don't see anything wrong.

I'm not a recluse anymore. I certainly was before transition.

Am I hurt? Yes. And living alone after having a committed "life" partner for 23 years is a hurt that doesn't heal quickly or easily.

Devlyn

I stopped reading them after the one where everyones throat gets slashed to see if rainbows or blood comes out. WTF?

I wasn't really aiming at you specifically. What I meant is that unless one is very recluse - which means they are not exposed to outside harm - and they get hurt by those comics, they are going to be profoundly hurt daily, with everything that's going around that might be worse. And in that case, I don't think the comics can make a difference.

I just feel it's sort of overprotecting people, and might not be in their best interest, to deem the content inappropriate. There ARE a few jokes that I didn't find remotely funny, such as the one Devlyn Marie pointed out.

But then again, about one third of the jokes my favourite humorists do, I don't understand or find them inappropriate. And as much as I find some shows (no offense meant to the numerous fans) such as The Simpsons, South Park and Family Guy distasteful and immature, I wouldn't deem flag it as "unappropriate" to the groups who are sometimes mocked in them. I won't say: "what if a nerd-like child is hurt when the character with the glasses is ridiculed?"

I won't argue any more, but I'd like to finish on this: it's not possible to protect everyone from the smallest of threats, and trying to do so is likely to have a negative result in the end. In my opinion, at least.

Humour about a specific minority group is a delicate matter.  IMHO there are two points of view regarding it:
1.  The trials and tribulations of that group should not be satirized as it makes light of their sufferings.
2.  Use humour to bring attention and hopefully change.

What I've seen in this thread is both points of view making themselves known.  It really boils down to the individual and how they view things.

For me, I grew up in the ethnic group "Last off the boat" in Australia and encountered racial taunts on the street as a little kid.  I took it in stride and now actually make jokes about both the people who made fun of me, and of being in an ethnic group.  I view comics like transgirl diaries in the same light - it makes light of our suffering, but it brings attention to it, and also for me, it brings to attention that I am not alone.  (I have to say a few of them were *wth was that about*)

For others, it may be offensive, and there's no helping that.

Yeah, it seems the only people having a problem with this website are the older transwomen.

I think all of them were funny, i went through all of them and smiled.
Really made me feel better.
