A Cure for ->-bleeped-<-? Tell the Medical Profession, Not Me

An email arrived in my work inbox today, with the title "->-bleeped-<- is curable." There was a link to an article, along with links to various sites, and the closing line: "The truth will prevail."

Of course, people are entitled to their opinions. I know that some people cannot accept the idea that transsexualism and homosexuality have biological causes, such as fetal hormonal showers gone awry, even if science is increasingly leaning that way. Anything outside of the binary gender system and heterosexual orientation is an abomination to them, and they would sooner see us slaughtered than live freely. Their motto is not "live and let live." It is, "do it our way, or God will punish you." And then they encourage discrimination — hate — against LGBTQ people at every level.

My personal vote: Strong No!

I don't think I have anything that needs to be "cured."

I put I don't know/maybe/undecided.  Being "cured to be cis" would probably save me thousands of dollars for transitioning and pain so I'm looking at that from that standpoint.

There is already a cure.  It is called Transition.  SRS is just the end of my complete Transition.

Likewise, my sentiment! What we now call transgender has existed throughout history and across cultures. Gender variance is a naturally occurring phenomenum. I would like to see society cured of its obsession to categorize people rigidly as either female or male, and to celebrate the true diversity of gender.

Shoot.  I meant to put "leaning no".

It depends on if the cure involves me being in a male body by some sort of process.  If so, then yes.  If not, no.  I don't think I could ever forget the discomfort I have being in a female body. 

I also don't think it's something that really needs cured.  Like Zythrya has said, it's something that has been occurring for ages in different forms.

It's a shame that self-righteousness, ignorance and intolerance are both endemic and infectious.

By the tone of that blog, I don't think the email she recieved was from a medical source. More likely self-appointed emmisaries of something altogether 'higher-up'. But with regard to the question in the thread title, and in the context it was posed: I don't think it's entirely all that simple. I don't think medical science can develop a cure, in the traditional sense, because I'm not convinced that the entire cause for it is based in the physical. But that's a different debate. However, that would lead my answer to be: no, because placebos aren't cures.

I wish they'd look for a cure for narrow-minded pigheadedness. Maybe an antidote for fundaMENTALism?

I mean, I used to be what might be considered a fundie...but to me, all I had to do was BE AVAILABLE to talk, IF THE PERSON WANTED TO TALK about their "status" as a sinner (everyone is a sinner, not just the "evil" ones) But to judge? That was well above any human's paygrade.


Needless to say, I wasn't popular among the other fundies...

Conceptually, your body exists to support your brain (and your brain exists to regulate and facilitate reproduction.)

Suppose a medication was developed to correct the mismatch by changing the brain chemistry.  No more gender dysphoria.

So they are going to "fix" a problem that is only a problem within their own heads. Yes, it's difficult to be transsexual...but being STUPID  is far more difficult, and there really isn't a cure for terminal cases.

Probably if I can just drink a magic potion cure, lolz. I won't care anymore because I'll have a male brain, so whatever, but I don't really like thinking about it because it seems wrong. I'd still perfer a full female body mutation, lolz.

Think of this though.  If you have already developed in your life along certain paths because of different brain then how will you cope with being a different person.  How does it impact the ones around you.  It is like the people that change radically because of a stroke or other mental illness later in their lives.  You are basically starting over.

Ok, so we don't do it to adults...  So now we are talking eugenics right?  This fetus isn't developing properly so we will "enhance" it.

Where does it stop?  Do we create drugs for liberalism or religiousness or hair color?

Of course I'm guessing it was a religious "cure" they were promising which is utter nonsense.

You're probably right. That is why I specified "medical science" in the poll hypothetical.
