A few weeks ago I spoke to a staff member at Sherbourne Health Center in Toronto (I live in a western suburb about 45 min drive), the lady said there is a one year wait list to see a medical doctor. She wondered if my GP would be approachable, if amenable could start the process earlier for me. On Apr. 12, I came out to my GP. A female, we have a wonderful rapport & she has been on top of any medical issues, only one minor. She said she hasn't any knowledge of transgender. I will go by the initial of her last name, Dr. G. I emailed her the SHC web site url with info., & protocols. This past Tuesday May 1 I had a follow-up. Results were back from my pelvic ultrasound & blood tests. Blood is good everything is normal & show I am "male." Darn lol. Dr. G. expressed her concern that E hormones could run the risk of cancer. I mentioned that patches have a low risk from what I am learning. Dr. G has set me up with an Endo on Aug. 1 this year. I mentioned if the Endo can't do anything for me & I would have to go on the wait list at SHC, I would have had to come out to her at some point as SHC would require my medial information.

At 70 years I never considered the two invasive surgeries, as too dangerous especially bottom (I have not been very crazy about what I refer to my dangling participles in the nether region) and just not worth this. I have discussed my idea of a plan with my amazingly wonderful and supportive wife of 24 years, she would be uncomfortable telling her family & I think I agree with her that we don't think her two brothers and family will understand, therefore she doesn't want to tell them about Jamie. I want to do hormones enough to have finer facial hair if that can happen to make it easier for shaving my coarse stubble. Also to be able to grow my own breasts, I am very flat & don't have man boobs, so maybe that is all I will get. I understand there are facial & body changes and can alter the mind. I figure just tweaking a little in partial transition to the female me that I have discovered in the last 10 years will be enough to satisfy me in working around my wife's family in that I can dress androgynous around her family. I showed Dr. G a few pics of me made up, wearing some beautiful dresses, she smiled & thanked me for bringing them and knew how serious I am about being feminine. Dr. G. said it will be good for me to take when I see the Endo.

I am comfortable and very pleased with the progress Dr. G. & I have made. Looking forward to Aug. 1. If the Endo senses the hormones could be a threat to shorten my life, then I would rather keep the status quo mostly dressing enfemme and having a longer life. I am excited about all that I am learning and Happily loving my life, my wife, my supportive family and friends. I am a positive person, so hopefully my life can move forward in transition even if I have to wait for a year at SHC. I will be sending my application to them soon just in case that is where life leads me.

Thanks for letting me share with you my new extended family.

Great News Jamiep

Well done. As long as you are comfortable with your decisions that is all that matters.

And you look very cute BTW.

Hi. You look pretty good for 70.  I had a student guess my age as in my early 30's today, so we must be doing something right!

Good to hear you have a supportive Dr, that makes a hell of a difference.  Surgery is a major decision, and one where I am still undecided.  I will do lots more research on individual experiences with different surgeons, before I decide.  I may just settle on an Orchi as the least invasive way to get rid of the T-factories.

Have a good weekend.  Karen.

I think it's really great that you're still trying to make changes and do new things, when many people who are much younger than you feel like they can't. It's never too late to learn and grow.

I hope things go well for you.

Cindy and Karen, humble bow of  thanks for your precious comments on looking younger than 70. Cute, I have gotten that comment about me either in girl or boy mode. That is where I assess me too, nothing wrong with cute. As male I have been told I am sweet, I guess that is my female mind all these year shining through.

Cindy, you look really pretty in the blouse & skirt.

Karen, isn't that Great being guessed as early 30's, I agree, we must be doing something right. I am blessed to have a very liberal GP, who listens, empathetic, and works with you, we communicate and like each other. Dr. G. is a gem.  Surgeries I agree, major, if you can avoid the pain all the better. Our age, it could be the orchi may not be necessary as they area may not be producing as much T, but I don't know a lot about that. Me being on a limited income I can't really afford the surgeries. I have a low threshold to pain, but I didn't do too badly with two hernia operations. I guess when it comes to bottom surgery, it reminds me of baseball player Yogi Bera's comment, "if it ain't broke don't fix it." If the plumbing works don't change anything. Finding an excellent surgeon must be huge. Have a good weekend too. Thanks, we have been having a busy fun wknd.

Both of you along with Catherine, Jamie D, Joannel & Kelly (in other posts) including my transwomen friends in Toronto, your information, suggestions, ideas have nurtured me to explore partial transition that can work for my situation. I wouldn't have thought it would be possible without your sensitivity, knowledge, information, experience and support. I totally appreciate you, you are a treasure. I look forward to many more posts of interaction.

Update: I held off for a while after seeing the Endo in waiting for info. The Endo has a remarkable career in the medical world. Only had about 12 minutes with him. He had some family health history questions. I suppose any info on my gender dysphoria to be female was forwarded from my GP Dr. G., so I really didn't have to explain my being female history. He answered some of my questions. I showed him some of my pics of me dressed as a lady & had a positive response from him. He went right on easily in saying I could go forward transitioning as much as I cared to go. Did some blood tests. Said he would call me in a week. More than a week passed I left voice messages. Nothing. Aug. 16 I saw my GP Dr. G. & told her that the Endo refers people that want to transition to CAMH. I told her I had two friends that were so badly treated there that they got depressed & nearly lost their lives to suicide attempts. I said even if the Endo calls me I will not go to CAMH. When I got home I had a call from the Endo office that my blood work is good. Nothing else in a month.

So I will be sending an application shortly to put me on the one year wait list at the Sherbourne Health Center. After all these years I guess it doesn't matter if this part of my life plan is put on hold for a year. I was so hoping I could have gotten this done in my area now instead of the drive in to Toronto.

So no transition progress info. from me for a long time.

Have a good weekend all.
