Hi all just a quick question, is it normal for your UK GP to try there hardest to put you off having the Decapeptyl SR injection or is it just me this happens to ?

spacial

Depends upon why he is suggesting it.

All medical treatment carries a risk. Assessment is made by weighing up risks over benefits. If he feels the risks are greater than the benefits, after a treatment has begun, then he is ethically obliged to advice against it.

Nothing to do with the UK. More to do with you being a human.

Spacial is correct about risks vs benefits.

Doctors, too, are often concerned about the "off label" use of many medications.

Here is some more info on that particular medication:

Well i had the jab at last, weird looking stuff indeed. Do not know how my body will react to this its a little worrying at the moment, hopefully no side effects, fingers crossed.

The doc at my gender clinic recommends Decapeptyl when people need some kind of T suppressant, he says it's the safer than anti-androgens (which work differently, and all tend to put some strain on the liver). Before I started at the clinic last September I was taking Cyproterone (an AA) and getting on fine with that, but he prefers that I change to Decapeptyl.

The only thing I'm concerned about is whether the quarterly injections lose effect before the next injection is due, i.e. does a person end up with their T sawtoothing up and down? This worries me because my trans man friends who've been on a T injection that does that have had horrible mood changes as it wears off. Having just been taken off AA's for 2 months, I can vouch for the horribleness of suddenly being under the testostyranny again.

Hi Padma,  well i can tell you i week after the injection i feel quite ill, tired but that goes away somewhat, i have been left feeling really weak i would say i have lost over 50% of my strength, very noticeable.

As regard the trailing off of the injection i have felt moody and boy did the last jab sting  :o

Hi
I started Decapeptyl in April after being just on Estrogen for 6 months prior to that.  I had a months injection first to see how things went.  Initially you can experience a spike in T levels as i did for a few days.  I also experienced insomnia for a couple of weeks although it gradually got better.  I have just had by second 3 month jab and yes it really did sting.  The liquid in the syringe looks like dirty dishwater and is quite off putting.  When I mentioned this to the nurse she laughed and then jabbed me in the right buttock :o. and said "all done!"

Basically after the initial T spike (if any) it grinds T production in your testes to a halt.  No more T being produced, no need for any other AA.  You do still produce a little T in your adrenal gland i think.  This now gives me a T level of 1.2.  I have noticed my sex drive a dropped off the end of the planet, although I can "do it" with a little effort although I am completely dry on orgasm.

I do feel like I have less energy and i have noticed feeling a lot more emotional.  However my boobs are rounding out very well and my body feminisation is much more obvious.  Basically it does exactly what it says on the tin!

Hey come and check me out here!!........

Thanks, folks. Luckily, I'm already back on Cyproterone, so I'll ride the T spike gracefully, and then stop taking those 2 weeks after my first jab on Wednesday. I hope I make it back down to 0.8T again, I liked it down there :).

There is a Decapeptyl implant version, it's just not available in the UK. But I've had enough people assure me that there's not too much peak-trough with the injections, so I've stopped worrying.

Joanna, i know what you mean about the mess in the bottle i had to look twice and the nurse said oh i have not done one of these before and what a lot of bubbles in this  :o

As for emotions hmmmm lol up and down, i have had to drop a day at work due to being tired i hope this passes. I wish you luck x  you too Padma x

The injection looks cloudy because it's slow-release, so it's like lots of tiny slow-dissolving bubbles of stuff, rather than just a liquid.

Hi, I've been on decapeptyl for about four days now and I can certainly feel the T spike atm. I've been on androcur before making the switch and have gone from having little sex drive to quite a substantial one. To be honest it's making me feel really uneasy. I'm still taking the androcur for the next week, but how long did this spike last for other people? X

I could really do some help on this. I'm a week and a half in and I am struggling, really, really struggling. I'm on finasteride and androcur daily yet I still feel the testosterone beast growing and boiling over. Have I been poisoned? Will this ever end?

Hi Sasha,

It's used to stop the production of T in the testes. I was advised to take androcur for the first two weeks to help with the initial T spike.

This is interesting because often bodybuilders use it as a last resort if they have had their natural testosterone shut down  for a while, while coming off a steroid cycle. This would make sense why you're feeling the T effects. They last for a while, although they should not last forever.

Charing Cross took me off Spiro as they said for me it was not working ( feminisation wise great ) but it was not stopping the Testosterone and they were worried about my kidneys following a full set of bloods . So last week I had my first 12 weekly jab of Decapeptyl , in the bum no pain barely knew he had done it . However after just 3 days ive already got the muscle pain and weakness and my orgasms which were always fairly free of liquids anyway because of the spiro have now apparently gone totally dry ( whoopee doo im Celibate so that doesn't matter ) . Because ive been on Spiro for 5 years I may experience slightly different side effects but they are still there . The T spike may or may not happen but Im not worried about that , Trouble sleeping already but ive always suffered that and just grab it when I can . Anyway onto the point of this reply . It took my Gp over 6 weeks to get approval from the trust to give this injection ..the reason It costs over £400 for that tiny little pot of white gunk and the vial of liquid that you mix into it . Its possible this could put off local gp,s simply based on the cost . I believe that the surgeries now control their own budgets . Love Jet xx

Hello

I know no-one has replied to this topic in awhile but this is one of the reasons I found this site in the first place :D

I have been on Decapeptyl since 11th April 2017 and up until now have not had many problems, that is UP UNTIL NOW! lol.

I have started to feel very tired and moody and a little cloudy in the brain department. My tummy feels like WW3 is going on in there and I have some wicked wee pains every now and again behind my eyes when trying to go too sleep. Even the blurred vision rears its ugly head from time to time. I am not sure half the time if its me or actual side affects that are making me feel these ways because they are so confusing, well my body is at least.

I am currently on Everol <Doses not allowed>, Finasteride <Doses not allowed> and now this lovely injection every 28 days. I really hope things settle down eventually because i couldn't imagine feeling like this for the rest of my life if said piturity gland decides not to recover...

But in saying all that I will persist with it becuase, well the benefits overall will outweigh the rest in my opinion xxx

Stay happy and lots of love.

Nooms,

Welcome to the site. I see you have put an introduction up but not been welcomed yet. So here it is officially.
Thanks for jumping right in and starting to share and post.

I had to remove some dosages from your post above. We don't allow them on here for fear someone might use the numbers to self medicate. Bad idea without a doctor's supervision.

Hope you find what you are looking for here.

I also want to share some links with you. They are mostly welcome information and the rules that govern the site. If you have not had a chance to look through them, please take a moment:

Once again, welcome to Susan's. Look around, ask questions and join in.
