Carmen Carrera - "What Would You Do?"

Frankly, it's when I mentioned it before – there is NO need to come out/explain yourself to any Tom, Dick and Harry.

My reaction would just be to use denial, short and sweet, like sorry I do not know/recall you, and then move on, serve the next customer.

The video is jolly good in just presenting what ever so often would happen IF you let yourself get involved.
As a person providing a service – it's so much the worse for it.
Also there be NO WAY to 'explain' yourself. Remember... "what one can't feel – one does not understand"

If we all keep it a secret, society is going to stay ignorant in regards to this.

I'm proud of the few transfolks that are out and representing.
The more society is exposed to this, the more tolerant they get.

My family was ignorant before I came along;
Now if they meet another trans person, they know what's up and are completely fine with it.

ok...I wasnt really expecting a long cry this morning!

Its not for the "hate" the male actor was portraying but because of the non actor people that spoke up and came to her defense, I just want to thank all of them!

I cant believe that was such a trigger for me...Im still tearing up while writing this...sniff

Yeah, I love that the guys were the ones that spoke up the most.
Even going as far as staying close by and watching over Carmen.
I thought that was cute as heck!

I cant go there Jaime, as I feel that would be my situation...I will never be that pretty or even close in my mind...I do have a fair share of confidence though and hope that will off-set any lack of "pretty'

Never gonna happen.  Besides, the secret has been out for some time.  There are books, videos, celebrities and various "out" trans people, not to mention the beauty pageants, etc. etc. etc.  There are websites dedicated to sharing the information, documentaries, web diaries, blogs...

This is what gay people thought before also...

They told themselves "why does my family need to know my personal life or who I date?" ... "why do my friends need to know?" ... "why should i talk about my personal life at work?"....

And for a very long time, society thought whatever they wanted of them (in a rather harsh way).

Until they started standing up proudly for what they were. That is when they started gaining ground. Now it is a lotttttt easier to be "out" as gay.

Personally, I want a life where everyone I associate with knows what I am... and accepts it. I couldn't stand always worrying about if I was doing something that would "give me away".

I appreciate what you are expressing Rabbit.  I previously maintained the same sentiments you are expressing.  For myself being my true sex tends to be inhibited by sharing information with non-trans people.  I find that the way for me to avoid resistance (to being my true sex), is to avoid engaging resistance.  I tend to create resistance for myself by educating people about my situation.  There was a time when I felt like educating people felt liberating but I was still moving away from being my birth sex and my birth sex obligations.  I felt free.  But eventually after just being female education became a hindrance and began to feel like obligation, inconvenience.   Also I was having to depend upon others for my acceptance.  At a certain point I accepted myself as a woman instead of seeking it from other people.  Now I don't give a damn about what others think as long as they stay out of my way or recognize me as female.

Then don't do it lol.

It's great what she's doing, and she was on RPDR so she has the fame to educate people.
plus it helps since she's pretty. 

People pay attention 2 da prettiness. 
As long as people like her can get the message across, it'll be okay for everyone else.
Because so far most people's idea of an MTF are middle age women with masculine features and an outdated fashion sense.

We ain't getting no where with that.

That was amazing. There were somewhat similar tests on TV over here - like, with a store clerk telling a black person who's just looking at items to leave in a racist conception of thieves, and a woman mistreating her grandfather and such - but apart from mean stares and whispers and shy comments, little happened. The people in this video stood up to the mean person a lot, which was surprisingly nice.

Though coming back to Carmen, seriously, I'd so never do that. I mean, "you look familiar" - "yeah, I'm transgendered"... I don't know about the whole "helping trans people with disclosure" thing, but she's sure going extreme.

PS: Whoa, this commentator sure is annoying. Are all American shows like this?

and they sorta played it out unrealisticly, but the point was to see if someone would stand up for her.
I mean, it sure did catch everyone's attention lol.

I understand not wanting to be out. I would rather have been just seen as a woman but life is different for everyone. If you pass and have no worries of being outed that is great. there is still a need of tolerance because of veriation.

I think it was great that those guys went into a protective mode. I have a friend at work like that when new people come there and don't understand what they are seeing he is like that if he feel they are hurting my feelings.
