It was extremely rare, but I was the recipient of a 'disdainful' attitude from one of the nurses at the hospital, during a visit for minor aesthetic and hygienic surgical revisions [both turned out very well].

Clearly, she considered me some kind of 'gross anomaly', having reviewed my file and was making her disgust known.

I played this off for a bit [things have changed considerably, since I began my journey towards the true] but after a while, enough became enough and it evidently became known to her, that she had succeeded in infuriating me and was on her way toward a serious verbal confrontation.

She backed off in a hurry, a wise move. 

But again, this kind of reaction and treatment from medical people is extremely rare; most everybody has been very kind and sweet.

That's been my experience too, which has really surprised me - though at this point I should REALLY stop saying that I guess. You really only get to use about 112 surprise reactions... then I REALLY need to get a clue, lol...

But yea, I called a gazillion doctor's offices looking for someone to manage my HRT, and every single nurse/receptionist I talked to was super-kind and sympathetic. And when I get my bloodwork done, the nurse who takes me back to the room always asks, "So what are you here for today?" And my "Well, I'm changing my sex..." answer just seems to provoke curious (and polite) questions at most, or a genuine "Oh! Well, good luck to you!"

I keep waiting for the proverbial "other shoe to drop," when it seems the only shoe I've felt is everyone kicking my butt to just get ON with this thing and stop being such a whiney coward, lol...

True it is rare but it does happen and not just in regard to gender.  I've been acting as go between for two Dr.s offices trying to get some surgery scheduled for mom.  I finally told one office that "it was a good thing they were in the medical field because they would never make it in a business world because their customer service SUCKED!  I'm the type person that I don't care whether it's a Doctor, Lawyer, Hooker or Plumber, I expect good customer service.

I fully concur.

And over the continuum, I have grown much less tolerant of the same.

There are several dynamics behind my the anger towards her attitude:

1) What you just annunciated

2) A deep seated anger, which began its accrual back when I was tortured in grade and High school over reactions very similar to hers

3) I am essentially paying her for service

4) Again, I never asked to be born TS and she has no idea what I have barely survived through, for over forty years.

I'll gauge my response [again, things have changed considerably in me since I began mine, things have improved]

but I will not suffer nor tolerate being treated with contempt nor disdain.

My experiences lead me to believe that the behavior is extremely common. the docs who have been nice and those wanting to know more have been few and far between. Took me years to get a GP who would actually continually see me (not that I go in all that often).

It just occurred to me that a vociferous reaction on my part to blatant disrespect might appear to be excruciatingly 'male' but so be it, should the occasion arise.

I will not suffer disrespect and I do believe that I have indeed 'paid my dues' in this life.

Several times over, in fact.

If a medical worker at a hospital is giving you attitude, you do have the right to make a request that "Perhaps a different worker would be more comfortable helping you". If the supervisor does not get it from a message like that, then spell it out in no uncertain terms. Because at least in the USA, you are their customer and you deserve to betreated well as long as you treat them well.

Hmmmmm......

And I can [and have done so in other situations] say that in such a way where it would be 'dripping' with rhetorical 'hydrochloric acid'.

This usually evinces a look of extreme discomfort, on the visage of the recipient. 

And now I might not 'back off', verbally. That was one alteration in character that was especially noticeable after a few months of transition and HRT: while my temperament and the character of my anger have markedly changed [improved], one change that I noted was that now, when I perceive an 'attack', I will not 'break lock' and I press on mercilessly with a counter-response.

That nearly had gotten me in trouble in a couple of situations in the beginning before I realized what was occurring and why and subsequently gained control and modulation over this

51 years old and learning how to be a human being, all over again.
