The boys, ages 14 and 16, were searching for material on military academies but came across "The Whole Lesbian Sex Book" by Felice Newman. Adams said that finding the books "greatly disturbed" his sons and that the book caused "many sleepless nights in our house."

Adams faxed a letter to Bentonville Mayor Bob McCaslin, saying the book is "patently offensive and lacks any artistic, literary or scientific value."

If this book caused such a problem, then there are underlying issues that were there long before they stumbled upon this book.

I find it more disturbing that they were searching for material on military academies.  That would cause many sleepless nights in my house.

Fahrenheit 451 is still banned in most libraries.

No kidding?  Really?  I can't believe it.  I mean... I can believe it, but why on earth would they ban that book?  I remember reading it my sophomore year in high school. It was part of my English literature studies.  We "had" to read it.  It was my favorite book read for high school. 

Oh... maybe cause it planted a seed in Cindi's brain... that authority is not always right... that power can be used to subjigate a populace... that keeping them dumb can help keep them in line...........

That's why.  Cindi is now a threat to all of humanity cause she read 451 in high school!

Ya, we had to read it, too.  It's amazing how much of the view of the media was prophetic.

And yes, you know that military academy references are right next to all the GLBT books right?  I bet the bible is right there too!  All of the other books are on the opposite side of the building.

I say take the $20k and set up a diversity training program.  These children obviously need it.

IMO, anyone who would has children who would be disturbed by such a book hasn't raised their children correctly.

My mother volunteers in the library where my niece attends a Baptist high school. (My brother gets a price break on tuition because of it).  She says that the books on dinosaurs require parental approval before a kid can look at them.  They have warning stickers on them and they are kept in a separate section not readily available to the students.

Cool huh?  And you wonder why people can't accept us.  They can't even read about science!

Now THAT comment reminded me of when my military unit came back from Bosnia.  I was clearing files off the hard drive of the unit administrator who had transferred to another unit just before we got back, to make the computer into the one the Commanding Officer would use.

I noticed an MPG file in one of the MSIE cache files and clicked on it to see what it was, just as the unit Executive Officer (second-in-command) walked behind me.  A window popped open and showed raunchy porn (hetero couple having sex for the camera...)

I caught hell from the XO until I finally convinced him the files were already on the hard drive, and I'd only just found them.  He decided that the sergeant who previously used the computer should be brought up on charges...

...but only after he 'investigated' every single stinkin' one of the files, calling us over to come look at the better ones.

Yes, that's definitely how it works. Back when, by far the largest collection of porn on base was in the duty officer's office. All of it confiscated, of course.
