A reader's comment today reminded me of just how much the whole Jenna Talackova affair is making some women like her (and me) grimace every time they see her called "a transgender woman." We've talked about this before: the word "transgender" is not necessary, in fact, it is considered to be discriminatory by many people. But the media are having a field day with the Jenna Talackova story, and as several senior editors have told me, the "transgender" angle is the hook — they would not be reporting this story if Jenna had been "a natural-born woman," whatever that means.

I have been writing to newspapers asking why they use that adjective for some woman and not all. I have asked why don't they use 'real' as an adjective for  woman who were born in their correct sexual structure.

I have not had a single reply.

BTW I am deliberately using the 'real' adjective to be provocative to the newspaper, not to be insulting to woman.
