I am having trouble finding a surgeon that will perform a Vaginoplasty because of prostrate cancer and a robotic prostatectomy in 2006. I have been referred to Dr. Stan J Monstrey in Belgium. Does anyone know about his work and the capabilities of the Universitätskliniken Gent in Belgium?

Thank you,

Joanna

I've been going to that gender team for therapy/hrt/voice and I'm on the waiting list for SRS with prof Monstrey. He's a *huge* figure for the FtM phalloplasty. Went to see him not too long ago and he said his team had done over 1500 vaginoplasties as well. He gave me the usual; the vagina will look normal, will be orgasmic, but no lubrication and tons of dilating. Sadly I haven't been able to find any pictures of his results. I suppose because he's not like commercial.

That would indicate they have done one vaginoplasty a day, five days a week, for the past 6 years only taking two weeks off per year. Yet I find next to nothing on the web.

Where did the 1500 number come from?

And do we have any more French or Belgium ladies out there that can speak to this issue? I found a French TS web site, but the information is in images and I can't get it into Google Translate.

Dr Monstrey is a very good doctor. I had a consultation with him. He is very famous for F2M SRS. I don't know anything about his M2F procedures. He must be good. And he is not commercial at all.

Okay, you went to see Dr Monstrey and you think he is a good doctor. That is good to know.

Why do you think he is a good doctor for an MTF?

Hi Joanna,

First of all he is an urological surgeon. He handles many F2M cases and they are more difficult to deal with. If he is the only one who accepts your case and that means something. I personally don't know anybody who has had a surgery with him but he knows what he is talking about. You must make your own judgment.

What are his charges?

Hey,

I found this topic on google, I do have an resource where you can view the results of Prof. Monstrey for mtf and ftm. Just note, that those pics aren't up to date and that hes technique got better by now.

The results for both mtf en ftm can be found here:
http://www.genderstichting.be/nl/component/option,com_ponygallery/Itemid,126/func,viewcategory/catid,4/
The site is in dutch though.

I'm getting my srs done by him, and as a resident of Belgium the srs will cost me about 3000 euros.

Thanks for the information. It sounds like Dr Monstrey is a great option for srs. I did have a question though, and forgive me if its an obvious one, but I am not very educated on the topic. I have read that some surgeons do the surgery in two stages, requiring you to return for a labiaplasty. Which way does Dr Monstrey do it, and is this way preferable? What are the pros and cons?

Most of the time a mtf surgery in Belgium happens in one stage. Although in rare cases the labia is misplaced because of the swelling during the srs and need to fixed. But those are rather rare cases. Most of the times he uses the Penile inversion technique, you can find pictures of the surgery with the given link in my last post in this topic.

In the brochure it says he uses the prepuce for the labia minora. Like Suporn, I think? In one surgery.
I am going to see him again in november and ask about a possible 2-stage SRS since I hear it may give a superior aesthetic result.

Hey everyone! So did any of you take it further with Dr.Monstrey?? I am about to meet him for my mtf SRS and i sadly have no reviews for his work  :(

Hi everybody,

I live in Belgium.

I've not found much information on this surgeon.

He is known for FTM but not MTF which makes him a bad choice for MTF for me, being totally different techniques.

Sadly he is not a commercial surgeon. I don't feel comfortable with " trust me I'm an expert with a degree"  style doctors.  I prefer open and transparent doctors with detailed web sites.

My reference points are McGinn Bowers and Suporn.  Their web sites that are extremely informative.

Had anybody any reviews of his work?

( Earlier comments like this are unhelpful at the most: " First of all he is an urological surgeon. He handles many F2M cases and they are more difficult to deal with. If he is the only one who accepts your case and that means something. I personally don't know anybody who has had a surgery with him but he knows what he is talking about. Kind regards, S
