So, Its been a month since we told my grandparents about Claire. Things are still fine between us, which is good b/c I thought for sure that once it sunk in they would be bothered by this. My grandfather even made a joke about it the other day at breakfast (a joke from my grandfather is a rare thing). So that's how it is with them....

Then today, my mother and oldest brother got into yet another fight (my oldest brother is 3 years my junior and was living with my mom still) that ended in him being removed from her property. (hes 20 now so its legal... =/) So he came to my house and we agreed that as long has he helps out around the house and babysits when needed, so I can go to work and school, that he could crash here til he gets on his feet.  My one worry was that Claire is mid-transition, taking hormones, occasionally dressing around the house, fooling with make up and such. And with my brother living here he was bound to notice. So Claire and I talked about it and decided that it was probably better to just tell him and get it over with.

Claire went to work and I took a walk with my brother, (I may have mentioned that a few months ago he actually guessed what was up) and asked him if he remembered when he asked if C wanted to be a girl.... He did, so I explained that he was correct and that C had started her transition just about a month ago. From what I could tell he took it surprisingly well... He said he was worried b/c he is a bit more spiritual then I am and b/c he knows that people can be quite mean. We talked it though a little bit but he had plans and a friend came to get him before I could answer all his questions. He'll be back in a few hours and we'll talk more about it but so far so good I think...

Now I am really scared though, it seems like it has been too easy thus far. I keep waiting for the other shoe to drop (proper saying?). Claire is telling her father next week (if all goes as planned) and I really really hope that is not where things get hard. Prayers that he takes it as well as my grandparents please....

Has anyone gone through this without a bad reaction??? 

Enjoy the successes, there will be a few failures for everyone.  Having said that we've been exceptionally lucky also.  My family was mostly gone already and the only ones I still had contact with, didn't care.  She lost a favorite aunt, but the rest of the losses were not really close at all.

Never expect the bad to happen (waiting for the shoe), just enjoy what you have while you have it.

Agreed.  It's hard to be confident when talking to people if you are expecting the worst.  And that confidence is definitely important - if you are sure of what you are explaining, and are confident in doing so, it is MUCH more likely to be accepted at face value.
