Ive travelled here and there (including the States) except Asia, Australia and Africa.  Im originally from the Netherlands and I cannot seem to shake the idea that Amsterdam is one of the most beautiful cities in the world, according to world cross country organizers, it usually ties with Athens and other such beautiful cities...(never been to Athens) I love Amsterdam,  our mother city is not as bad as some nastee people make it out to be...our mother rocks.

I'd love to visit Amsterdam some day.  I have ancestors from that city.  My favoritie US city is Boston. It is beautiful there with the surrounding forests. I love its history and the restaurants.  "I'll have a laubsta, please."

But my favorite place in the whole world is not a city. It is a spot up high in the Sierra mountain range in California.  There is a cold stream dropping from a mountain top lake, wending it's way across the granite to a small waterfall where it decends into a glaciated valley. The air is clear and there are no people.  The stars are beautiful at night.  I know that I'll never be able to go there again.... cause it's at least 3 days to hike in to it. "And mama don't do that no more."

That sounds marvelous Cindi.  I was in California three years ago for my facial feminization surgery.  We stayed in Sunnyvale and Petaluma.  It was a great holiday but I spent it mostly healing.  Next time Id love to visit that place you talk about.

That sounds amazing, wow!!

Hawaii for me.  There is just something about digging your feet into the sand and watching/listening to the surf.  Especially in the early morning hours.  If anyone has a chance to visit Hawaii, go.

I live in the most beautiful holiday destination I've ever seen. I don't have much desire to travel after realizing that, other than to get a week or two of sunshine in the winter.

Where I live has fishing, skiing, golf (for those who like chasing a little ball over a big field), tennis, kayaking, canoeing, hiking. And all in the same day if you're hyper, or on holiday. Most of us locals keep it to maybe two activities - skiiing and tennis for me - in the same day. We got mountains, ocean, and forests. All within a 10 minute walk of town.

Unfortunately others are now discovering it. It was a tiny town when I was growing up and it's becoming awfully crowded now.

I love where I live. Also it's the friendliest place I've ever lived in.

I went to Egypt a few years back with my partner. During our stay we spent 7 days/nights cruising up the nile. The nights on the nile with millions of stars filling the sky, the splash and gentle rocking of water against the side of the boat and the sound of prayer chants drifting through the night. That was beauty.

its a tough decision to make, as the world holds so many beautiful places, But if I had to choose one, it would be the Maldives (1000 km south of Sri Lanka) its pure paradise! the 1345 islands that the Maldives is made up off, are all bounty-like. (When you fly into male, you see all of a sudden, (when there are no clouds of course) these bright blue specs in the ocean, while still flying on cruising altitude... The people on the Maldives, are among the most friendly peoples of the world. Its a Muslim country, but besides having respect for their religion, as in not going topless, etc. its not even invaded by the number of hotels that own the islands. Youre not only in paradise, but you also feel like youre not a typical tourist, intruding into the world of the inhabitants. The government has been really smart, they let the islands occupy by hotels, but there are a very strict rules in order to maintain the beauty of it all! Diving there is a dream come true, I personally found it more beautiful than the great barrier! Well palm trees, white sandy beaches and bluer than blue sea... But my best argument is that its the only place I have ever been to where everything was even more beautiful than in the travel brochure!
The laws of God, the laws of man, He may keep that will and can; Not I. Let God and man decree Laws for themselves and not for me; And if my ways are not as theirs Let them mind their own affairs. - A. E. Housman

I worked there for a while at Loch Goil Head and the views and the people were amazing, I loved to wake up and take a walk down to the waters edge and sit and watch the word pass me by.

Sorry to be so dull but I beutiful place nether the less.

If liking a beautiful place makes you dull, well, then, welcome to the club.  ;)

Scotland is a wonderful place, at least from what I've seen it from my couple of visits. It's also fun to compare it to Lapland -- they are geologically closely related, but the extra few degrees of latitude and the level of agriculture make a huge difference. And of course the number of mosquitoes, if you make the mistake of going up there in July.  :P

my most beautiful vacation destination was my hometown, williamsburg, virginia.  it sounds corny, but i went away to college in another state and the one year that i went back for Christmas was so peaceful. i was relieved to be around family and in familiar surroundings.

Sorry never been further north, but I do wish to travel one day.

I allways wanted to go to Newzealand to see the views. Just like transition only in my dreams I guess.. :(

I have never been outside of the United States, that being said there are two countries that top my list of *wanna go someday*....
Italy and Scotland

But, I love the US. There is so much beauty here within our states. And the truth is, gimmie the woods, any woods that are lush and green and smell of rain and sun and earth. Gimmie a hand to hold while walking thru those woods and I would call it heaven.

I haven't traveled outside the Americas at all.  I'd love to visit Europe, Africa, Asia, and Australia someday.  The most beautiful and magical place I have ever gone to has to be The Lost City of the Incas, Macchu Picchu, in my home country, Peru,  Currently being considered to be one of the seven wonders of the world.
Why?  look at the pictures and decide for yourself. ;)

What a beautiful place.  I've got to go there sometime.  My most beautiful holiday destination is Kenya.  My parents and I went to an African Safari there after my GRS almost two years ago.  If you want to partake in a true and genuine African experience, go there when you can.  The wildlife, the beaches, the food, the people; all are wortth the effort and the long flight.

Then again, the US are already huge; in a lot of ways, there's as much variation there as in Europe. It's not called the United States for nothing, you know..

Anyway, it's really hard to choose just one most beautiful holiday destination. It depends so much on my mood -- sometimes I miss London, or Rome; sometimes sitting on top of a hill in Lapland, or alone on a small rocky islet in the middle of a lake. Or something in between. Heck, call me weird, but I even liked strolling through the corridors at the Library of Congress (although I have to admit that I found the British Library more beautiful).

It was not a vacation [per se], but a TDY and I cannnot decide between Germany or Italy.

And in neither case it was for no one specific reason,  but generally for the general 'magic' and beauty of the countries and the people.

Most definitely Switzerland.  The moutains and the sky, the flowers, the cows, the people.  There's nowhere else I have found like it.  And it's where I got hooked on moca for breakfast.
