A dog is quite loyal and will wait for you til death. Cats are neither your pet nor friend. They are your master.

Exactly. I've seen so many things with dogs. There was a story of a pitbull who actually stood in front of a train to protect the owner who was drunk. The dog survived and the lady was saved. Amazing. LET'S SEE A CAT DO THAT!

This is more subject to whether a person is more introverted or extroverted than anything else, isn't it? From my experience, people are going to lean toward their animal counterpart with the same personality type more. Personally, being an introvert, I greatly prefer cats - every extroverted person I've ever known liked dogs better. Like most things, it's all a matter of compatibility.

Dog's do not "reek" lol I worked at an animal shelter and trust me, the dogs smelled waaaaaaaaaaaaay better than the cats. Gosh, just going into the room with the kitty litter was nasty!

You know, dog breath and their body stinks.
Haven't you ever heard of people complaining about the smell of wet dog before?
I'm not talking about cat faeces, because yes, that stinks, but I think if any animal was doing it's business in a box filled with litter and it was left sitting there overnight, yeah, it'd probably smell.

Your point is moot.

Any animal stinks if they aren't taken care of. And dogs breath only stinks if their teeth  have not been cleaned. My dog's mouth was bad and then he had his teeth cleaned and it's not bad at all. There is no real smell. And wet dogs mells yeah. But chances are the dog isn't wet!

Before a fight breaks out here, it IS a matter of opinion. Just pointing out I've owned both cats and dogs and neither really smell to me (but they were always inside so no wet and muddy animals).

You're asking about which is a better friend. That would be a dog, because well.. cat's are selfish.

If you'd ask about which is the better pet. I would say dog first because I just like dogs better, but cats are a lot easier (we have a cat and we can stay away from home for a night without a problem, can't do that with a dog) And she's attached as hell. (sleeps on the bed every night)

On the other hand.. we came home Sunday evening and the curtains (and everything that goes with it) were lying on the floor.. (first time ever so we're not worried... ;))

(Oh and for 'the record' (aka my personal opinion), nothing smells worse than cat's breath, ever had a cat look at you while burping or something? Yeck) xD

For me it is a cat.  Cats are cheaper to manage than dogs and are more conveinient and more independent.  Aside from not owning a pet, creature that doesn't take as much money and time to manage is a best friend to me.

There was a story of a cat owner who was a sleep and a fire broke out and the cat actually woke her up so she could escape.

Psh, my cat saved us from a fire too. I was sleeping and my fricken dad left the stove on and fell asleep (he's disabled and has a lot of problems so it's understandable), so of course the whole house got smokey. Honestly, I think the cat's priority was saving himself, lawl. I love my pets and I have no favorites but there's no doubt that my dog loves me more, lolz. :3

Cats.  They fit in more with my life.

I've never liked dogs, and cats have always liked me.

DOGS!!!!!!!!

I know theres a "Men with Cats" thread on here, but hey, its dogs that rule. Dogs are amazing, theyre loyal, so intelligent, more beautiful, a wider range in breeds, bigger (which to me is a plus :p ). Cats are stuck up and selfish! Ofcourse, there are exceptions; those rare one off cats that are nice and give companionship. Ive grown up with many dogs and many cats, and while Ive loved all of my pets, absolutely loved them, dogs are so much better companions!!!! :D

I love them both but unfortunetly have developed an allergy to them  :-\

But if you live alone and happen to die for whatever reason, a dog will pine over your dead body and attract attention were as a cat will just eat you when it runs out of food  :P

I don't think this is that rare since I know plenty of cats who are like this and both of my cats are this way. There are also cats that seem like they crawled out of hell and seem diabolically evil, but it's likely because there is a total lack of communication between the human and the animal.

Bear in mind, there are also vicious dogs out there and dogs that don't fit the quota you say. When a dog has had bad experiences or little to no experiences with people, it's not uncommon for the animal to behave "badly" and have aggression manifest.

Personally, I think cats are better, but that's probably because I've had such a good experience with them and such a bad experience with dogs growing up.
*insert pointless rant here*

I really don't know why I just typed all of that.
