Hello, I'm new to the forum and taking my first nonreversible steps toward transition in just a little over a week when I have my first laser treatment on my face. I just had a couple of questions of some of you who are further along in the process.

1) Are there any special preparations you made before the treatment or applications you used immediately after to ease pain or lessen other physical effects?
2) How far up did you tell the technician to treat sideburns?

Topical lidocaine will reduce the bite of the laser but it's still going to hurt like no other at follicle killing settings. Ibuprofen will reduce the duration of swelling and sunblock will prevent sun damage and keep it moisturized.

I didn't have much sideburn done, had neck lasered instead.

If you're still reading, I have another quick question. Did you apply the Lidocaine yourself or was it provided by the clinic where you had the laser performed? I have a suspicion that the clinic will try to sell me a topical solution, but at an inflated price.

The clinic offered it at a flat $15 per session (I had both full face and genitals lasered). I tried combos of with it, without it and with APAP+codine to see what did best on pain reduction (none fared very well and the place I went to didn't offer injectable lidocaine like where I had electro did).

Stay out of the sun! And make sure they're not using an IPL laser. After 6 sessions of that my beard still looked untouched. Then, I found this place. Check this link out, this is the place I use, and I couldn't be happier. They have the best explanation of the different types of lasers and how they work, that I've found. After 4 sessions here, with an additional 4 free 2 weeks after touch ups to cover anything missed, my beard is almost gone. I only have a couple of trouble spots that remain. I can't hardly believe it after my first experience.. I would highly suggest that anyone in the phoenix area use them. I drive about 35 minutes just to get there. Well worth it.

My third treatment for my face and neck is the 3rd of next month. My tip to you would be to take a 2 or 3 ibuprofen and stay away from any sugary drinks three hours prior to getting zapped. It doesn't hurt that bad nothing like I imagined. If you have any tattoo's a tattoo hurts worse. The only spot I hate is my chin and my lower back.

Also I tend to have a small break out on my face for like a week after getting lasered its almost like acne. What it is is just the hair pushing threw. I'd recommend getting a good exfoliating wash for your face for afterwards.

Like one of the other girls mentioned stay out of the sun and if your in the sun wear sun block!
