On the one hand when celebrities come out, it has generally been good for their communities.  But not always.  There are times when we just want to be thought of as regular people...and celebrities are by definition not "regular people".

In the past year a couple of rock starts have begun very public transitions.  And we find them in the news of the past couple of weeks.

Laura Jane Grace of the band Against Me! has done her first interview since coming out as a transwoman and doing her first performance under her new name.  The interview was conducted by James Montgomery of MTV News

[...]

While MTV has given much more of the spotlight to Laura Jane, Life of Agony's Mina Caputo did her own coming out nearly a year ago.

Marissa was just on the cover of Decibel's "Women in Metal" issue. She's getting her due, too. :)

That's cool that she was respected as a women (assumingly), i always thought metal was kinda homo and transphobic.
All I can say is that my life is pretty plain, I like watchin' the puddles gather rain.

I do like some metal, but I thought it was a macho thing more than anything else.  What about a gangsta rap performer going trans...   O....M....-  Well, I try not to violate the third commandment.  These guys are known to disrespect everybody, especially women.

QuoteThere are a LOT of homophobic & transphobic idiots in the metal scene. Sure, not everyone is like this but there are more bigots than there are open minded folks.

That's what i thought but they way you said it, the article were decent enough to put her in the category of "women of metal" which is cool still, i used to like metal but hrt and what you just said put a stop to that. I think the only metal bands i listen to is Black Sabbath/Ozzy Osbourne, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden & Marilyn Manson (i know he's not really metal but that's all i can think of).
