Its something I'm curious about.

I tend to do it too, I'm 20 years old so I'm a young woman. I think its probably because it sounds more lighthearted and playful and young. I don't want to think of myself as some stodgy old woman, whenever I say I'm a woman I picture some tough as nails b**** from some cop show!

I think this is just colloquial language,

Walk into a room and say: Hi boys or Hi girls or Hi guys compared to Hi men or Hi women or Hi people.

Just rolls of the tongue easier for me at least.

Girls, gals, Ladies, women and several other Synonyms are used to describe females   
Cis. women use the same terms

It's just some terms are more appropriate than others at various times

Some do, some don't - I'm a "don't" .

I think being called an 'old GIRL' still sounds better tan being called an 'old WOMAN' yes?

My username is "crazy old bat."  And "fruit bat" brings to mind an old gay person, lol. Kind of like a friend of mine. Maybe next time he makes me mad on purpose, I should call him that.

I have a lot of reasons for referring to myself as a "girl".  I play competitive pool, and most of the people I spend time with in the pool halls are tough-as-nails men.  I've noticed that the female pool players who take offense to being called girls tend to be looked upon as hard-asses.  (Point of fact, a lot of them are hard-asses.)  The men became much more playful, friendly and generally helpful with me once it was established that I actually like being called a girl, and that I'm not easily offended.  I guess it's sort of a social perception thing, at least in the circles that I circulate in.

The other thing for me is that I missed out on a lot of the fun, challenge and self discovery aspects of young girlhood as I grappled with gender dysphoria in my teens and 20's.  As far as I'm concerned, I'm in my second childhood.  By my calculation, I transitioned 14 years ago, which means that right about now I'm in my second adolescence... and I guess I sort of act appropriately... hence the pink and blue hair, body piercings, tattoos, high heels, dramatic makeup, etc.  My partner has the patience of a saint as she puts up with my adolescent behavior at times.  (She's 11 years older than me.)  My boss should be so patient... still, that's what I get for working for the Catholic Church.

Dudette!  I'm always going to be a girl.

Where I work there are only women and most other women will call us girls as a group and most guys seem to prefer to use ladies.

as a ftm I tend to feel more confortable being a "boy" or "guy" than "man"
I also usunally say "transguy" insteed of "transman"

I think the reason is because I really feel more like a boy-guy than a man..

when I heard the word Man I think of adulthood, a grown up person who is over his years of being a child and being a teen, I might tecnically be grown up since I am more than 18, but I dont feel much like a grown up, I dont look like a grown up, and barbie also mention before I kinda miss alot of my "childhood-teens" from disphoria and trans issues. what most teens did when they where 16 I can first really experience now and feel good about. I first got into my puberty now and  get to parties, buying the right clothes without worrying about hidding my cheast and all those things.
I been longing for trying those so I feel I need to have some late "teens years to enjoy being a boy and a guy" before I settle down to become a man XD

I never really put much thought into that.  I tend to use the term "ladies" in lieu of either girls or women; but to me it really doesn't matter.

Girls are apprentice women.

Since I've only been female a few years, I'm not experienced enough to call myself a woman.

+1 ... Exactly, second childhood stuff.

I wouldn't have wanted to be called a girl when I was a girl if I'd been born one (if you can follow that) - but then I'm a tomboy .

Well a Bi-girl friend says , "you are such a girrrlll!"  I laugh.
Karen being only 3 years old, although she called herself Sandra for the first couple, I am in my own mind a girl in many ways.  I feel like I am 58 going on 15.

hehe. 58 going on 15.  I love it.  I have the body of a 16 yr. old.  And if she ever finding out what I have don't with it, she's going to kill me.

I tend to use 'girl' as a form of endearment. 

I usually always say "Man. I love being a woman" 

I feel like a woman too, but a lot of them are hung up on bodily organs.
