Well I have been working as a police officer for over 10 years with a large department. I don't know of anyone who has transitioned on the job from MTF in my department. Its a male dominate career field but its all I know. Im scared out of my mind to tell my superiors that I'm currently in the process in transitioning from MTF but I have already started 6 mouths ago. I have been going to my GT and been on HRT and getting my face hair removed during that last 6 months. I work as a male and on my days off I live as a female. I have lost over 45 pounds since January and everyone at work is noticing my chages but just have not put 2 and 2 together. Im very passable as female Im lucky I dont have mascline features. I fully intend to go all the way with this I can't go back to being a male as it's driving me crazy. I do know that my Department is very LGBT supportive but it's the coworkers the people That I work for how will they judge me, how will I be treated by them and there close minded lack of knolledge concerning transgender issues. I'm scared how I will be treated once they find out as I am highly respected by my coworkers. What If other officer refuse to work with me as a partner. I have thought about going stealth and getting out of the streets by going inside on a desk job as my department is big enough no one would even know except the higher-ups. And what the news gets a hold of this ans blows it up that's also scary and I dont need that as this is a personal and I dont want my life made public and anytime a cop does anything wrong its a story for the news media to criticize. But then again maybe there are more like me that don't have the strength to go as far as I'm planing on going so I might be able to make some type of groundwork for others to follow in the future.

Well what is your opions on how I should proceed? Should I stay Stealth? Or be open. And yes this has been discussed with my GT but I need the support of you.  Does anyone here know of any police officers that have transitioned on the job before? Remember I am in the view of all the public I'm held to a higher standard.

Hello my sister in blue!  :police: you took every word out of my mouth! I have wanted to ask the same question for so long but couldnt put my thoughts into words. I have been a police officer  for over 7 years. We share the exact same life experience, I also work as a male on duty and live as a female off duty! I too worry that my partners will refuse to work with me or worse, will not come to my rescue if I get into a shoot out. To be continued.......as I am currently on patrol and my break is over.

look up Mia Macy, she is a police officer that transistioned at work!

Hey. I work in EMS aside from RN so I know how you feel. When I came out they were like we always knew something is up. Anyways you do a good job so we don't care. I was shocked at how it was not a big deal. Although it took them a.little bit to get use to me with breast. Like two weeks.

Joana, before I graduated from university and changed to another job I was a police officer as well. I worked in the German police for about nine years, I also came out while I was working there. I did this all by writing e-mails to the fellow officers which I used to work with. In the end, it was easier as I expected. Although I agree it is a field which is pretty dominated by "masculine behaviour", my coming-out was well-accepted even by those officers of who I expected they would never accept me.

The only downside was that my superior almost immediately ordered that I wasn't allowed to carry my handgun anymore. I had to hand it in indefinitely. Moreover, I had to leave the patrol force but I was given free choice regarding my future working field in the indoor staff. This procedure is common for any German police officer who has been diagnosed with "mental illness". No further comment on that...

Al least I was given a full set of female uniform. I loved to wear that one.  :D And I still have it today because they did not want it back after I resigned.  :)
My police ID card was changed after my name change became final. I also had to make a new photo for this one.

Until I changed my job, I worked as a legal assistant in the police happily for another two years.

Here is my video: I hope my post and videos assist you with your decision and show you that you are not alone in this. Obviously my opinion is that you should NOT be stealth and work towards being open.

Thanks for your videos... Wow Its great knowing I'm not alone. I really like the part where you describe Law Enforcement with TG. That's so true how it is for us having to deal with people not liking us. We work in such a male dominate career where even the CIS women have more testosterone than me. LoL..... And it's not easy the thought of losing my respect with my peers. I'm the same person they already know nothing changes other than my looks but yet its just that being accepted by our peers is all I want. I still can do the job the same. Keep in touch Jenny and we can chat about our experiences   :police:

I have not know any local law enforcement that transitioned at work, but I have know quite a few federal LEOs that transitioned on the job. Not really something I am willing to discuss in an open forum, but if you would like to know a bit about their experience feel free to PM me (this is meant for the LEOs).

To all of you who wear a badge: I SALUTE YOU!

Please know that are many of us who respect you, and deeply appreciate your hard work.

I for one will stop and assist an officer under any circumstance, even if it meant to put myself in harms way.

Your so welcome girl! Isnt it wonderful to know your not alone and the only one struggling through this.  I am glad I made you smile.  Its so true about the CIS women in our field seem to have more testosterone that we do! lol. Again we have the same wants and needs in our career. Its amazing how our looks can change the view people have of us.   Message me whenever. :police:

oh here is an article about one of our sisters transitioning on the job, she is  a Prison guard at a Maximun Security Penitentiary: http://www.canada.com/sports/Changing+guard/6931431/story.html

@Peky: Thank you so much! its really hard to respond to a thank you, since its so rare we get one. It so throws me off when it happens in person, I become speechless.
