So, I just got a referral from a doctor to go there in September for hormone blockers and the like. I've also been tasked with the job of writing an autobiography that explains why I'm trans.
How gatekeepy would they be? I'm under 18, non-binary, and didn't know from the second I was born, so the odds are stacked against me already...I want to know if my chance'll be 0%, or if it just looks from this side of things  😀

I am in Tasmania but there are a few girls here from SA, so they should be able to fill you in.  I wouldn't stress too much about the autobiography.  It gives them a start to you medical record, and saves a bit of time.

If you look half way normal you shouldn't have any problem.  They are basically trying to screen out people with major psych problems.

Yup. I agree, they're just trying to screen out people with major psych problems. They have a duty of care to ensure you're in there because of gender incongruence and not souring else.


Try not to be hostile or adversarial when you get in there. There may be a few hurdles but most of the practioners you'll deal with here in Australia are pretty reasonable.

I'm in Adelaide and there is no 'clinic' as such (used to be). Most of us see a psychiatrist for initial assessment his initials are RL. Some people have issues, I find him delightful and I'm very happy with his help and support.


The process takes some time mainly because of waiting times. The process in SA is quite formal but I haven't found it gatekeeperish just takes time but that applies to most medical procedures here. You are in a queue.


PM me for more info., there is a lot of support in Adelaide both from 'clubs' and there are individuals here who meet up with each other. I can put you in touch with both. I don''t go to the TtG societies but I can put you in touch with them if you wish, they are also on the web and are very accessible and open. Adelaide is quite TG friendly or a least tolerant. I've never had any problems.
