Resuming sports three months after SRS - realistic?

So I'm about to have SRS in four weeks. I had personal consultations with three surgeons and basically they told me pretty much the same. Surgery method is penile inversion.

One thing I'm still a bit unsure about is when one can expect to resume working out and what one would be able to do. One surgeon told me: "In 10-12 weeks you should be able to do everything (!) again." Well...everything? Can this be true?  ???

Another surgeon told me that jogging/running would be a no-go because of the permanent rubbing close to the operated area. He didn't say anything about the time frame, though. Certainly, lifting anything heavy should be avoided post-op. I plan not going back to gym for at least four months.

Anybody who has experience with this after mtf genital surgery? I would be grateful if someone could give me some tips on this.  :)

While I'm useless at any sport, I do like my running.


Within a few weeks I was back to walking a few km's. I started to build up and it was around the 10 week mark I was back to jogging.

I would treat it as if it were the same as an injury (I whole-heartedly apologise if that sounds uncomfortable/unfair/uncouth/etc) and begin slowly and build up the intensity as and when you feel comfortable. Naturally start off with a very easy, slow, short exercise and see how you feel. Progressively increase the intensity if you feel you can handle it.

It will all depend on your ability to heal. I had non- penile inversion done and about 3 months is enough to do everything. With penile inversion it should be less but you will see how your body reacts. It is kind of sore and uncomfortable after the surgery and it really takes time before you are able to do sports.

Then I think the surgeon's guesstimate was indeed not too unrealistic.

Only 24 more days to go...I'm getting a little...nervous.  :D

I agree with swan. Each individual heals differently. I'm at 2 1/2 month post-op at this point and I can do light exercise like working around the house or stand or walk for a long period of time but I'm far from 100% recovery. Prolonged sitting is still uncomfortable though.

I'm 20 days post op with dr suporn (nonpenile inversion, i suppose)... physically i feel like i could go miles, but my crotch feels like a sack of open staples because of the sutures still undissolved... :) Some girls are much more woozy/nauseous/off mentally. But the big thing is many of the girls who were able to run around (on painkillers or not) too early had more complications or bad down days after.... i had a catheter for an extended time, so was flat on my back for two weeks. Annoying, but in exchange, the healing has been superb and fast. So I''d say even if you CAN do a lot, it isn't necessarily good. Force yourself to relax as long as possible afterwards. Good luck!

Absolutely. First two weeks should be rest and only short walks. Otherwise tears will happen. It takes time for the flaps to set.

Essentially your body will also tell you, i.e. DO NOT IGNORE THOSE SIGNALS!

Sport, and sport, and then some, it all depends. Would I even today 1 year post-op and 1 month post-labiaplasty sit on bicycle? No WAY José!

Walking, yes, definitely recommended - but not everyone would say WALKING is 'sport'.

Light exercises, so long your body does not object is a good thing - in my experience.

it's very realistic......I was must of been high on pain pills or just plan stupid....but I was playing basketball 13 days post op....I could not feel anything....had a terrible experience at 5 days post op.....but I was feeling good enough at 9 days post op to be walking around the mall for 3 1/2 hours.....and was walking normal at 11 days.....and I saw a kid playing basketball out my window of my hotel room and said....why not LOL While I believe I did not do any harm....there is no way I should of been doing the physical exertion I was doing at that point and who knows if it slowed the overall recovery......but for every day trying working out, I think you could be good after 3 months....I was in horrid shape at that point and did not start seriously working out till 4 months post op....and that was cause I was lazy and gaining a little weight....I managed to get myself in good enough shape to compete in a 5 on 5 basketball competition at 5 1/2 months post op.....while very winded I played all 44 minutes......and nothing downstairs reacted poorly to it.....so I think you should be alright.
