Ok stupid question time  ???

Has anyone had issues getting their nails to grow well on both hands, my left hand nails grow fast but my right hand take forever and are brittle. I am right handed but try balance what they do.

Anyone else??

Mine are like that. i think it is something to do with the fact that right-handed people just use their right hands more for things, even when we try to do otherwise. I noticed that nail varnish also chips more on the right hand than the left, no matter how well I layer it.

Also the hormones have an effect on nail growth too. My own nails were beautiful and strong before hormones and now they chip much more frequently.

Women have been drinking Knox Gelatin for decades to support nail health.

You can find it at any large grocery.

Ew. Gelatin. Boiled carcasses.

Ahem, anyway.

It's absolutely normal for your nails on the hand that has the least friction and pressure to look like they grow more quickly, because they're less grinded and broken by the environment. Same reason my little finger and annulary's grow long and healthy, but the rest all break and split and feel like they grow slower.

To help, you could try some nail polish (clear, because it's more beautiful and subtle ~). There are also some vitamin/etc. supplements that help with nails as well as hair. I don't remember how they're called, but it supposedly helps a lot in some people.

Like the post said above me I also recommend a clear polish. Actually, not so much a polish as a nail "strengthener." I use sally hansen hard as nail which is like 2 bucks and at every drug store =p. But it coats your nails so they don't peel or get broken as easily. For example if you wash your hands a lot the water can cause peeling. If you bang your finger on something it can chip it. So this helps it from breaking. Also look at your diet. Taking prenatal vitimins is also an option. Good luck =)

Okay, good advise do I put the strengthener under the polish, or instead of?

without the polish, wen u use a color nail polish thats wen u use a clear nail polish to make them harder and make the color not chip as easily

Here's a crazy thing that may or may not apply to you... I've been struggling with the same issue of the nails on my right hand breaking all the time and appearing to grow more slowly than the nails on my left hand.  Then about 8 weeks ago I bought this nifty tool from Amazon.com... it's a dental floss tool... it's sort of a handle with 2 prongs poking from the top... you stretch dental floss across the gap at the top and floss your teeth without having to wind the floss around your fingers.

I've always thought that I was being super careful of my nails when I flossed my teeth everyday, but since I got this tool, my nails have stopped breaking; the nails on both hands are growing at the same rate; and my nail polish has all but stopped chipping... seriously!  My nails in this moment are longer than I've had them in a very long time, and my nails look as good today as they did when I painted them 8 days ago.  I guess that, even though I thought I was being careful with the floss, my nails were still getting flexed as I maneuvered the floss around my teeth, and little cuts/dents were getting pressed into the edge of the nail which soon after developed into cracks and breaks.

That dental floss tool was the best 7 bucks I've spent in a while!

I hope this helps.

Hugs,   :-*

On a semi related matter, if I get a manicure, but work in boy mode, what type of manicure should I get?

Ya know, it's better to create your own threads after a while like that.

But anyway. I don't know much about the specifics, but many men get manucures, and it doesn't look off. So I think the easiest thing to do would be to go in in boy mode and ask for a manucure, simply. They'll do you the "man-ucure" (bad joke ^^'), which is just clean-looking nails, pretty short, with clear polish.

If not, you can just go in and ask for something discreet. In general, if your nails aren't all that shiny (matte-ish polish), not too long and not coloured, it shouldn't attract too much unwanted attraction. Then again, it might not be what you want, but the way I understand it, you still want to pass as a guy without too many questions, yes?

I had one nail that refused to behave, baby finger on my left hand, it was thin and would split. I finally used solar cuticle oil daily + LA girl calcium nail builder as a base coat and it's fine now.
