Dear Coleen,

I'm 16 and was born a boy, but I've always wanted to be a girl.

I told my mother this a few months ago, but my dad still doesn't have any idea.

So far I have a small collection of clothes bought with my own money when I've been on shopping trips with friends.

I want nothing more than to go shopping with my mum, but I'm afraid that she's not up for it.

Coleen says..

It's wonderful you've been able to tell your mum, however, it might be a bit too soon to expect her to go shopping for girls' clothes.

I think you have to give her time to get her head around it.
