Just completed my first session of my 8 weeks with Kathe Perez. Overall went good I learned a thing or two. I've never worked with my voice and it shows based on her scales. I need to work on my pitch and resonance. I scored a 1 & 2 on her 1 to 10 scale on the two area. 10 being the best. I got a overall 30 out of her goal of 70 of where she would like my voice at.

She measures your voice based on the following:

-pitch
-quality
-loudness
-resonance
-articulation
-phrasing
-pacing
-melodic intonation
-fluency

I have a feeling voice training is going to be difficult and a tad frustrating. I can tell I'm going to get something out of her course though and that I need to practice alot!

What are some things you girls have done to practice to get your voice dialed in better? Prior to this online session with her the most I've done is just trying to sing in the car.

I just downloaded TunerTool its a free App for iPhones for practicing on getting your voice to 220hz.

I just finished week 2 this morning. I'm feeling a lot more confidence in myself. She says I'm doing very well so far. I've been practicing like a mad woman just trying to nail the right pitch. I can pretty much get where she wants me to be in the 200hz's range just about all the time. My problem this week was bringing the pitch down when we practiced ha ha ha ha ha. You know where you do the higher note then lower high lower lower note.

I am a huge fan of Kathe. My voice is definitely female as on the phone I never get clocked, but my male voice is very male. She got me going in the right direction and it took heaps of practice but it does get there.

It's not really pitch, but resonance and when you find that "sweet" spot it is pretty cool.

Serena, how often do you practice and how much? BTW, new hair style looks amazing!

The answer to your question is very difficult to answer I guess it's a sense of the way it sounds when it comes out of your mouth. Kathe and I do simple key words like ha, who, and he. Practice on this words first with your vocal tuner. Once you master those when seeing them constantly hit the right spot hertz wise youll have a better idea where your at when you speak.

I listen to our audio sessions recordings about 3 to 4 days a week. I've sort of slacked the last couple weeks. I should be listening to them more. I would recommend practicing your voice everyday. I practice my voice when I'm driving alone quite a bit. Every street sign I pass, restaurant, etc I try to speak them in my female voice.

It takes time I also slacked off a little bit too

Hi,
I don't have an iphone but today I found (through genderlife) this free Overtone Analyzer for window users. After practicing for about 6 weeks the feed back I got from it was discouraging at first. Although after 30minutes my voice sounded much better once I managed to keep it at the visual 220Hz marker
Feels like this will require a lot of patience, and (like you girls said) practice.

Yesterday I started with kathe's cd's (Still early for coaching, if I ever do it). Getting on the 220 hz mark starting from higher pitchs is quite easy, but I am struggling with getting there from lower notes. The main issue is that she uses like 5 steps to go from E3 to A3, and I can only produce three different notes, at least for now..

Unfortunately, Maybe I worked a bit too much. It hurts now.

Overtone analyzer proved to be quite an improvement compared to other programs. My big issue is that since I have abolutely no musical training, I have it quite hard identifying the notes played on the recordings, so I have to analyse them first so in order to get a more graphical cue. I am waiting to receive a tuner by mail, but I think I could use my brother's digital guitar tuner in the meantime.

I have  a little phrase I use and I just say it to myself. I am more comfortable around 180Hz - 200Hz

I did that too. It did help. Some of us have posted recordings of our voices on this thread https://www.susans.org/forums/index.php/topic,126967.msg1000382.html#msg1000382 I have no idea if anyone there used Kathe's program, I cannot recall it being mentioned.
