So at my work we go to a local bank to make deposit drops. after i started my transition i avoided having to go there because the people there just seemed like theyd be unaccepting. its unprofessional but i always heard them talking crap about others. the other day i was the only manager on, so i had to go for the first time since my transition. they noticed my nametag and the next day brought it up to the manager who made the drop. they asked her if i had a "sex change." she confirmed that i was transtioning

the next day the same manager, who is also my friend went to the bank to make another drop. they told her they now refer to me as shim because they dont know what to call me and they were really rude about it.

i was right that it was a bad idea to let them find out i was transitioning and idk but im really kind of upset. usually i just brush stuff like that off but for some reason i cant, so im coming here to vent. and the worst part is, i cant even do anything about it. I really hope i dont have to go to the bank anytime soon because im really hurt and now ive been putting myself down all day. my dysphoria and everything has been good lately untill this.

well i just figured since it wasn't to my face that its just freedom of speech. do you think id be making to big a deal of it if i went to corporate?

Michael Joseph

She didnt wana even tell me because she knew it would upset me. ill talk to her tomorrow and see if she'd be willing to back me up if i spoke with their corporate. ive heard them say rude things about others before too, and that's just not okay. very unprofessional.

There are so many terrible things I could say to customers at work but I don't because they would get me fired in a heart beat. Freedom of speech doesn't apply in the work place and most companies have rules their employees must follow governing behavior. If they are saying things that make customers uncomfortable it needs to be brought up with their manager.
"For transpeople, using the right pronoun is NOT simply a 'political correctness' issue. It's core to the entire struggle transpeople go through. Using the wrong pronoun means 'I don't recognize you as who you are.' It means 'I think you're confused, delusional, or mentally I'll.'. It means 'you're not important enough for me to acknowledge your struggle.'"

Shim, well that is not very nice. If it was me I would not go to corporate. If you feel that strongly go to human resources and file a complaint. If the HR department is worth their salt they will deal with it. I personally don't let that kind of crap bother me. I treat my enemies like gold and try to be their friend. Why - because it probably makes them feel guilty and secondly sometimes you can win new friends.
