Rufus Wainwright Gets Married
The singer-songwriter married producer Jorn Weisbrodt Thursday in a star-studded ceremony on Long Island.

Singer-songwriter Rufus Wainwright wed his partner of five years, theater producer Jorn Weisbrodt, Thursday in a New York ceremony officiated by transgender artist Mx. Justin Vivian Bond.

The event was held in Montauk, at the eastern end of Long Island, and featured performances by the Salome Chamber Orchestra, David Aron Carpenter, and Rufus's sister Martha Wainwright, People reports.

Wainwright and Weisbrodt have been engaged since 2010. They have an 18-month-old daughter, Viva Katherine Wainwright Cohen, whom they are co-parenting with Leonard Cohen's daughter, Lorca Cohen.

When singer/songwriter Rufus Wainwright and Luminato's artistic director, Jorn Weisbrodt, got married in Montauk, N.Y., on Thursday, the official guest list included such A-listers as Yoko Ono, Carrie Fisher, Julianne Moore and Lou Reed.

But the most important presence at the glittering event was someone who was most noticeable by her absence — Kate McGarrigle.

The late folk-singer, who died in January 2010, was not only Rufus's mother, but a close friend of so many of the guests that, as Weisbrodt told The Star in an exclusive interview on Sunday, "it almost seemed like every time someone spoke, they were remembering Kate.

"Rufus and I had our fingers and toes crossed, but it all worked out just beautifully. It was a magic, magic day."

Transgendered artist and close friend Justin Vivian Bond performed the ceremony, created by Wainwright and Weisbrodt.

He's getting old. If there's one person I couldn't imagine marrying, that's him.
