On August 25, at King County District Court in Shoreline, the Tippayapaisal-Emongart marriage took place in front of a crowd of 30 friends and family. The wedding was not unlike any other that takes place every day across Washington state, with one exception: Worapat Tippayapaisal, a Transgender woman, tells SGN she married Pitchanum Emongart, a Transgender man. The two were able to marry because Transgender couples of the opposite sex are recognized for the gender they legally identify with, not their sexual orientation.
Tippayapaisal immigrated to the U.S. from Thailand 10 years ago and is now a U.S. citizen. When Tippayapaisal was 21 she transitioned to become a female.
