Just had a very odd dream that woke me up.
I was on a cruise ship, called the Klattenberg, or something like that. It was going up a fjord, or a big river or some sort. Steep sided cliffs on either side. And it started to sink. To start with, no one was the slightest bit interested, and some even were saying how it wasn't happening. Then the water started creeping in. It was icy cold. This ship had shiny white walls, and a big windowed room at the front. Everyone on board started congregating in that area. For some reason, people's possessions started appearing there in neat little rows.
The dream shifted and I was in a library, looking for something. Sunglasses, I think, to prevent the glare. I could hear the stories of huge banging noises on a loudspeaker overhead (quite why there would be a loudspeaker in a library is beyond me but anyway). The voice was saying how no one knew if the noises were an earthquake or something else, and there would be an update later on in the day. And I remember thinking "I know what it is, and you won't have to wait that long to find out." I could hear a faint alarm warning saying alert, all passengers abandon ship, all passengers abandon ship, this is not a drill, this is not a drill!"
And then I was back on board, and I knew somehow that the ship had run aground on a rock outcrop or something, and there was a very deep section of water that it was going to fall back into. I tried warning people but they wouldn't listen. Everyone was screaming. A man came up to me and shook me, he had a panicked look on his face. He was talking about how he'd lost his son, and how his son had failed to report to the front desk. He kept shouting it over and over and over. "I've lost my son, I've lost my son."
I asked him what his son looked like and he didn't seem to know. Only that he had white hair. Or blonde hair. He sat down in the cold water and started rocking back and forward, moaning about how he'd lost his son. I offered to go and look for him but the man shook his head and stared at me, and then started shouting "he's not here, you'll never find him. He's not here. He's not here." By this time the water was getting deeper and I knew I had to go and find the captain. I walked through seemingly endless corridors, which were changing to a dull red colour, all the time this alarm thing was sounding. All passengers abandon ship, all passengers abandon ship, this is not a drill, this is not a drill! And I could feel the whole ship tipping backwards.
I got to the captain's cabin and the captain wasn't there. There was only a note on the desk. "They're all going to die. Life is fading. It's my fault. I should have been better." It was written in blood. Through a window in the cabin I could see a huge wave crashing down the fjord, flattening trees, coming towards the ship. The walls turned red and the alarm started screaming at me. Get off the ship, you stupid b*tch, you're going to die! over and over. I couldn't move though. My heel was caught in something. I could just watch the wave engulf the ship and it sank back over the rocky thing it had run aground on and back into the deep water. I fell back and saw it was a hand that had grabbed my foot. There was a dead man there with a horrid grin on his face, holding my foot. The alarm changed again and started blaring you're never leaving! You don't deserve life. You have to stay!.
And then I couldn't breathe. My lungs filled with water. And I woke.
Very odd dream.
