I'm not in it for the gender-screwing, but...

It is always a pleasure when a clear, unintentional and concrete moment of gender-screw has occurred.

I am sauntering back from the hairdressers with new haircut where my natural blonde/ginger struggle had made it look like I have highlights. I am wearing all female clothes but rather neutral, a sweatshirt and jeans in blue and grey. I am carrying a pink mop I have just bought for the home.

Teenage girl ahead of me sneers to her mates, "She looks sexy." In a way loud enough for me to hear, in typical sneery teenage fashion. I walk past, they stare, there is a pause. The teenager speaks again. "Or is it a he?" Grin on my face, I carry on.

True, they were saying male or female I am no an object of beauty, but I know that and am beautiful in enough people's eyes to not need to worry about some teenagers. Almost makes me want to try with some make-up again.

Is a statement of perception, a judgement of a persons world as they would want others to see?
Or is it a statement of how they want others to judge them?

It's that moment that they ask a question about that perception, that reveals their self's perception.
Even a small acceptance will let them grow.
Sadly, continual denial of themselves will leave them as just another bigot.

Screwing with an adolescents mind does not always achieve the desired results.
But it's worth a try. We just need to be careful in how we screw with them.
Remember how we were treated when we questioned our adolescent perceptions.

On the other hand, it is fun to screw with people. It can take the past's pain away.
A smile is, sometimes, all that we need to do.

But I wasn't doing any of this, I was carrying a mop home. That's what made me smile.

And in turn, you have once again made me smile..  :)

Would have to be a pink one like Pica's. Carrying a mop with a manly color (camo green?) wouldn't have the same effect.
Have you read my short story The Eve of Triumph?

Well, it's a broom, but I would think in the USA that a camo mop wouldn't be hard to find.
Next time I am stocking up on extra clips and ammo at Cabela's, I will look.
Or I could just use a good old branch stuck in a mop.

Be a better use for it.
Flash suppressor?  ;D
Sorry, but I do live just outside of a town listed with a SPLC hate group. I am 5 minutes away from them.
I know it's a sad commentary on the state of the wild west USA mentality.
My past does still live on inside of me somewhere.

Well, they are a Neo-Christian LGBT Hate Group, SPLC is Southern Poverty Law Center. They are probably the most reliable source of hate group information in the USA. It is pretty hard to be listed by them as a hate group. They are used as reference here often when it comes to hate groups, pretty well respected by most everyone. Some hate groups don't like them, others think it is a tribute to their warped minds to be listed.

I was never going to use the pink camo skirt pic for an Avatar, but in light of not finding a reg. camo handled mop, well perhaps pink camo would go with a pink handled mop. ;)

Topic back on track  :)

Hmm, maybe I should go mop shopping.  Shmopping?  No, that sounds like something else.

When I was younger and had long blonde hair on my head and none on my chin, I occasionally got ma'amed.  At the time, I hadn't yet come to terms with gender and I thought of it as a bizarre mistake rather than an undesrtandable one, but it was still kind of neat. :)

Ofttimes you don't need to gender-screw people, you can just let their own perceptual filters screw them for you ;D.

The SPLC is a pretty good resource for finding hate groups, but remember their primary goal is to get funding from donors.

I looked into some of the hate groups in my area (nazi, KKK, skinhead, Christian Identity, etc) and found most of them were 2-3 drunk men who had Velcro shoes, because they couldn't tie shoelaces (seriously). Two of them were just PO box mail-drops. One (the skinheads) were a fairly good sized group (8, iirc) but talking to them was like herding cats...absolutely no organization or unity of thought. Fights were common among them.

Note that when I looked into the "hate group" phenomenon, it was well before I was trans, and I presented as I was...a right-wing Christian who'd heard the fear-mongering on the news about "domestic terrorism" and wanted to find out first-hand what they were all about. As such, they were willing to talk with me (a potential recruit, don'cha know) but even then they couldn't get their act together.

Domestic hate groups are nowhere near the threat that drug gangs or even Al-Quaida are. (AQ isn't that much of a threat now, anyway).

...I think for most of us it is a futile effort to try and put this genie back in the bottle once she has tasted freedom...

wikiwhatever: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Southern_Poverty_Law_Center
SPLC: http://www.splcenter.org/

They do what they do to get money, for sure. The wikipedia article is questionable, but so are those who question the SPLC.
Over the years, it has helped many people in many ways.
It is regarded as as a reputable source for information, despite it's early shortcomings.
A look at their website shows a map of groups currently active within each state.
Whether any of these groups represent an actual threat, they push the boundaries of threatening various groups.

They are considered a reliable group among others that report on hate groups.
But besides just reporting, they actually try to do something about them.
While not all of their methods are 100% agreeable to everyone, they are very effective at what they do.
If you haven't kept up with them lately, the wiki page is a start, along with their own site.
Consider all the sites that are set up for hate groups vs. sites that are watching them and reporting on their activities.
I think they do what they can, despite the rise in far right hate groups over the last few years.

As I now have a first court date concerning a local group, I will be contacting them for support.
Nothing big, a misdemeanor charge for disorderly and offensiveness.
(their method of getting donations is very questionable and they have been banned from many places.
I have seen to a couple. Hence, their charge against me.)
It will mean a lot to LGBT people where I live, if I get it dismissed.
If not, at the least, someone isn't backing down from the hatred spewed from it's leader.

Today a kid called me pretty and I over heard two five year olds discussing whether I had a penis. (A conversation I found a little disturbing). I don't think I've femmed up recently, I wonder what it is.

You're certainly not alone in this as you are among kindred, attitude is paramount. Good going Pica Pica!
