I was doing my thigh injection and forgot to check. I was all like "Oh, well I can just check now at the end of my shot since I'm sure I'm fine." I pulled up and I'm pretty sure I saw blood. I'm scouring the net and it's all basically saying I am going to die or become a flipping amputee. Someone please console me or something. I know this stuff can happen, but am I'm a hypochodriac and I'm on the brink of hyperventilating. I'm just to scared to let myself in case that'll just speed things up to my supposed death.

Call your doctor, an ER, or maybe the pharmacy? Better safe than sorry, hugs, Devlyn

Sometimes it just bleeds. You should be fine.

On the bright side... you'll always remember to check before pressing the plunger from this day forward.

I hope it all works out well.

Hugs,

I've injected in my thigh muscle and saw blood regularly, you'll be alright. If' you're into hyperventilation breathe through your mouth only into a bag and rebreathe that air for a few minutes, you'll be ok!

And, oh, by the way...a needle thread? <passes out on floor>

Thanks everyone for your input. I'm feeling a lot more relaxed now and I've yet to feel anything or have a heart attack, so I think I'll survive.

@Miharu: That is for sure! Never again.

I can assure you that your odds of dying are exceptionally small.

I'll start by saying and posting now, that if you didn't taste anything funny shortly after injection (within 20 seconds), it is exceptionally unlikely you IVed it, if you had, you would most likely subjectively sense a strange taste sensation nearly immediately, this is because of the drug entering your blood stream so quickly, it's common, a lot of drugs cause it. Now IF that happened, and you really did IV it, you will likely be fine. If you've had any history of heart complications or problems, you would be well advised to go to the hospital to be watched incase you have a pulmonary reaction. In either case you will likely be fine.

Here is by far the most likely scenario of what happened. After you injected, you aspirated, and likely drew up some of the drug you just injected contaminated by blood in the area of injection, that doesn't mean you did it IV and is pretty normal. Just in the future make sure to aspirate first.

Hope this helps.

I'm glad you feel better.  :D

It's pretty uncommon to accidentally IV something, it can be tricky enough to do it on purpose.

Not impossible though, and yeah, it's not good if you did inject a substance with an oil suspension into your blood stream, it is possible for it to cause stress in your heart through an oil embolism, and that could be bad if you had existing heart problems, so if you wanted to be really safe, if you have strong reason to suspect it really was injected IV, being under medical supervision isn't a bad idea. Even if you did, I'm fairly sure you would likely be ok though. Especially if you haven't experienced anything out of the ordinary by now.

And yeah, as I said, if apart from the feeling freaked out by the possibility of having IVed it, it was otherwise a normal reaction (which is to say, no immediate side effects), then it's highly unlikely you did it to begin with anyway. If you had, you would expect to sense an odd taste in your mouth, perhaps coughing fits, stuff like that. Put simply, the good thing about IV is that if somethings going to happen it'll usually happen pretty fast and pretty noticeably.

If you've hit a vein with your injection you'd get a reaction pretty quickly.  I would advise that you always aspirate 2-3 times during an injection to make sure you haven't hit a vein.  Even if your initial injection doesn't draw anything doesn't always mean that you haven't grazed somthing so checking 2-3 times during the injection gives a higher margin of safety.  That also means if you forget at the start, at worst case you only put in 1/3 of your dose into a vein.
