But on Friday, I did my third T shot by myself at a friends' house (I was at a sleepover) and I do it in the butt area - I don't think I have the guts to inject in the thigh - Anyways, I was able to get the needle most of the way in, but then suddenly I felt the needle touch something and I stopped short because I panicked so I ended up pulling the needle back a little before injecting. After that happened, I called my doctor to explain everything and he said I most likely injected into the fat, and that the T will still absorb but it will take a while longer since it wasn't muscle. What I'm wondering though: is what I hit and panicked about most likely the muscle? Or bone?

P.S. I'm new to this site. I've been on T for 6 month (AndroGel) and recently switched to injections.

Honestly, the odds of you hitting bone in your leg or butt are slim and nil.. Unless you're in the wrong place and depending on your body fat of course but really in my experience (I was a military medic and now a paramedic) not likely. I've only ever hit bone when injecting into the deltoid (upper arm). And it won't cause pain it just feels like a bit of a shudder - so you pull back a little, aspirate as normal and go for gold..it's not a big deal. If it hurt a lot and caused a lot of inflammation you could have hit a nerve but doesn't sound like it... You probably just hit tight/dense muscle etc.. But if you're concerned give your doc another tingle!

Jay pretty much covered it. I usually inject in my thigh, and sometimes the injections hurt worse than normal, but it is normally (as I found out from my doc and experience) just that my muscle is tensed up. I noticed when I switched general area for the injection it hurt worse because that area wasn't desensitized to it. My second to last injection hurt like a mofo, but my last one I didn't even feel really. My leaning would be that you hit a nerve. If you are really worried though, contact your doc.

Did it hurt? If you felt a sudden pain, it was a nerve that you hit. You aren't going to damage yourself that way but yeah it does smart, feeling that shooting pain.

If you touch bone, nothing will happen! I can assure you of that!

I inject into my thigh and I started out with one inch needles. Sometimes some of the T would leak back out of my leg after I did the injection. I told my doctor this and she said that meant that I wasn't injecting deep enough because if it was right in the muscle the fibers would close up as the needle pulled out and that would trap the T oil.

She gave me a longer needle, one and a half inches long. I inject as deep as I can go but without getting it all the way in I ALWAYS hit a spot where it is impossible to push in further. That IS the bone. It does not hurt. There is no pain. I do not feel it in my leg, but I feel as I try to push the needle in further that it simply will not go, and there is always the same amount of space. It's fine.

I then inject as usual and do it slowly, taking about three minutes. When I pull the needle out, nothing leaks. So no, hitting bone isn't an issue and never will be. The needle is simply not able to go into your bone. Wouldn't happen no matter what you did, and the surface isn't going to feel pain from a skinny little needle tip poking it.

do it in the thigh its easier and also you probably hit muscle that was tensed up. just sit and do it in your thigh i would imagine its easier then your butt.

It could have been clenched muscle or a nerve but whatever it was you should be okay. There's not a lot that can go wrong and mainly you just have to worry about cleanliness and preventing infection. I've felt similar sensations and started to panic but had no actual problems. Now I'm careful to inject when I'm as calm and warm as possible.
