New state protections from employment discrimination don't extend job benefits to the same-sex partners of gay or lesbian state workers, according to Gov. Kathleen Sebelius' office.

Despite that, the governor's decision to have state government's anti-discrimination policy include coverage of sexual orientation and gender identity is still sparking concern among some lawmakers.

Although legislators can't undo Sebelius' order, they could pass a law that would effectively allow discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation in hiring and promotion.

Wouldn't that be just spiffy? Their next step into facism.
