Quote from: Jillian-TG on November 26, 2025, 06:29:22 AMIt's crazy that in 2025 there's still debate against this. Why would any country want to legislate against allowing two people to marry? Who cares about their gender?
The "institution" of marriage has always been about control. Originally, marriage was a contract between families to build alliances and exchange property (dowry). Then, churches and governments decided they should be paid to "approve" the union. Permission was needed from tribal leaders, kings or queens, and priests. Notices were required, called "Bans", which allowed anyone to object. And now, the only ceremonies that receive "official" recognition must be performed by clergy or a government administrator. And, of course, fees must be paid.
If you want to play the game, you must play by the rules. Many people choose not to play, and in places where cohabitation is not illegal, they enjoy a "common-law marriage". Where it is illegal or not recognized, one must ask why. Control.
