Former professional tennis player Renee Richards, who underwent a sex change operation in 1975, is hoping a new memoir will bring some understanding to what she and other transsexuals face.

Richards, who was born Richard Raskind, became known internationally after successfully suing the United States Tennis Association for trying to ban her from playing in women's events at the U.S. Open.
