Gender dysphoria: unhappiness with one's biological sex or its usual gender role, with the desire for the body and role of the opposite sex.

Local high school student Lucy Wallace is well aware, "we live in a world where appearances are consumed by external facades."

For someone born in the wrong body looking in the mirror is a daily struggle to externalize her inner persona. Wallace, formerly named Matthew, knew this was her reality as a young child.
