Scotland is considering allowing heterosexuals to enter civil partnerships, even though civil partnership were made to extend rights associated with marriage to same-sex couples.

"The Marriage and Civil Partnership (Scotland) Bill, which will legalise same-sex marriage, is due to be introduced to the Scottish Parliament before MSPs break up for summer at the end of the month."

Sounds interesting, I never thought of heterosexual couples wanting to enter a civil union instead of marriage.
