Undocumented Transgender- How does it work with Name change and Sex Change?

As the title says, I'm wondering how could someone born outside the U.S change their name legally and gender. I'm 19, I wasn't born in the U.S, just raised here since I was 9ish. I have no legal documents that can verify that I'm in any way a citizen or resident, or even have a green card. I only have a permit to work here, so that's the only legal part.

I tried looking online but can't find much info about this. How would it work for someone in my case? if anyone knows, it'd be nice if they could share some info.

Hi Matt,
I am mtf and I was not born here neither so this is how it works. If the State where you live allows you to have a driver license or state ID regardless your undocumented status then once you have it, go to the court and fill a petition to change your name first. Once you had changed your name then go to the DMV to change your gender, they will only change your gender with a letter of your therapists stating that you live as a male and that you have started the HRT.
And voilà! 🙂

@MariaChristina I have my state ID, but I have a bad luck that I live in Texas..Texas doesn't allow any "documents" to be changed for transgenders anymore...I'll have to move to another state which I'm willing to do so if I must in a few years. I'll have to apply for an ID through my work permit and get the state ID in lets say "SC" to do the changes.

I love Texas but I want to be free and myself

Since you were born outside the U.S. (and not eligible for U.S. citizenship at that time) it will depend on the policies of the country where you were born as to whether or not your birth certificate can be changed. (Most, but not all, U.S. States allow one's BC to be more or less changed due to a gender change.)

I see, I was born in Mexico and they allow changes if you're transgender as far as I know. Thank you for replying.
