Ok so I got my first binder three days ago I believe was so obviously it hasn't had time to stretch out a little. And well when I first wore it it was pretty comfortable, but tonight when I put it on it hurt my ribs.
So my question is, is it normal for this to happen or is it possible that I just got a binder that is too small?

I think generally if you wear it a lot it will hurt; at least that's what I find. Try only wearing it when you are going out at first and gradually put it on more and more.
I don't see things as black or white because there's so much grey in between. Take my gender, for example. It varies day to day. I like that.

Binders are supposed to be tight around the chest and ribs. When brand new, theyre quite uncomfortable. But as I have worn mine a few times now, it's getting less and less painful :)

I guess it depends if you mean it feels tight/uncomfortable or if it actually HURTS. Because tight/uncomfortable is normal (at first - after one or two washes it should be not that uncomfortable at all beyond sweating/some compression while bending over and whatnot). It it actually hurts, I'd advise you to move a size up, because it can cause some pretty painful injuries (talking from personal experience here - every couple months, even when I bind properly and safely, I get inflammation in my ribs because I've been binding for 4 years now).
