The eggshells of our lives

We are very special people. We are born into a world that at best does not understand and often loathes us.

We can be outcasts.
We suffer lives that can return in tortured screams at night.

We have eggshells as our body armour.

We can suffer profound hurt by comments and remarks that 'normal' people cast off.

I can still be reduced to despair when accidentally misgendered. An email that calls refers to me as 'he' can instill sorrow - and anger.

Many of us seek sanctuary in drugs that block our brains. We can then suffer in the stupor of a haze.

It doesn't work of course, we still suffer, we are just temporarily defocused.

We can accept ourselves; we can meet like minded people and realise that we are not alone.

We can then weep together and become a family of the grief ridden.

But we are family.

Families argue and hurt each other, usually not meaning to. But we do.

We have lives protected by an eggshell.

Some shells are made from steel, others from fairy floss, some are so raw and some are so strong that we think we are invulnerable from hurt.
But we are not.

Let us reflect.

Our eggshells are ours.

Let us protect each other and not break each others eggshells.

I'm Cindy, and I'm crying because I think I have lost friends, their shells were not as strong as mine.

Hi Cindy, your words braught me joy and sorrow all at the same time,

Joy because there are other ppl here who know what we are going through and are here to support us through good times and bad  ppl who can guide us through life by sharing their strengths while being able to draw strength from ours ppl who help us to help others stay strong through their trials in life.

Sorrow because it is always sad to hear that sometimes ppl get really low in life because of others words and actions, because sometimes ppl wander away from the warmth of our family's hearts and hugs.

But sometimes it is best for someone to reflect on themselves to get a better understanding of where they want to be in life and what will bring them the most happiness.

Hugs and kisses

Cindy,

Your post brought tears to my eyes.  I came here in 2004 to learn, and try to understand.  I know that I never will--only because I can't; only because it's near impossible to walk in your shoes.  I am humbled by my lack of understanding, yet also in awe of the tremendous courage that trans* people display simply to be Who-They-Are.  I wish there were a forseeable "it gets better" for the transgender community.

Virtual hug,
