Sweet, fun and so true?
I have a poem to share as well. I found this at a Portland area AA meeting decades ago and the gender switches intrigued me. It is anonymous and, for the record, i am no fan of AA.
THE GIRL IN THE GLASS
When you get what you want ,
In your struggle for self,
And the world makes you Queen for a Day
Just go to the mirror and look at yourself
And see what THAT girl has to say
For it isn't your father, mother or husband
Who judgement upon you must pass:
The fellow whose verdict counts most in your life
Is the one starring back from the glass.
Some people may say you're a straight shooting chum
And call you a wonderful guy:
But the Girl in the Glass says you you're only a bum,
If you can't look her straight in the eye.
She's the fellow to please, never mind all the rest
For she's with you clear to the end.
And you've passed your most difficult task
If the Girl in the Glass is your friend.
You may fool the whole world down the pathway of years
And get pats on your back as you pass:
But your final reward will be heartaches and tears,
If you cheated the Girl in the Glass.
Here's a toast to being good to our girls and ourselves.
