Lol Russia Today.

;D

Yeah, we don't have as much time off as other countries, but I am fine with that here (and this is coming from a person who's never once had a job that gave vacation time or sick days). Maybe I am just a brain-washed American, but I see some of the vacation time given by law in other countries and it just seems a little ridiculous. I don't know how small businesses could afford to pay people to take a couple of weeks off of work. Sure, big corporations could, but if I opened up a small café here in the USA, I wouldn't be able to afford that.

BTW, can we post non-LGBT related news in the trans news section now?

I have, no words atm to say as, I am left speechless after watching that video. I should applaud her but, again, too speechless to do so or actually comment on the video..

All work and no play.... I have never had a job with paid vacations but I never really had a normal job anyway. Sometimes people really need to decompress and slow down and smell the roses. I know of two industries that work hand to hand in the area that I live and they always complain about safety. Yet it is 24/7/365 and they expect people to work the long hours. In some cases even one industry encourages the other to break laws. And the worst yet, time off=guilt. This is where I am living now and people's stress levels stay wound tight. High stress leads to obesity and I can see that a lot. Also leads to a lot of other things. Cancer is pretty common too all across the scale. On the news and according to insurance companies it has the worst drivers in the country. Drinking and driving on the weekends is off the scale. Alcoholism, everyday drinking of 6 or more drinks, is also a lot higher than in other areas that I have lived in.

All these things could be contributed to other things even culture but the predominate industries and the 24/7/365 thing I think may have something to do with it too. I'm not saying we should have two months vacation every year but two weeks would at least give people two times a year to unwind. I am a long way from being a socialist but maternty leave should be mandetory for the mother and even a week for the father. I mean how often do people have kids? There should be a little bit of early bonding for both parents.

The video is politically motivated to promote government mandated paid leave. Most people I know that work for bigger companies get paid vacations, paid sick leave, paid maternity leave, some have in-house daycare for working mothers, and then also paid national holidays, profit sharing plans and 401-K plans for those wishing to participate in addition to the company's standard retirement plan. These are perks that some companies have that value their employees and want them to be happy and productive. My local UPS guy has five weeks paid vacation per year, medical, dental and optical benefits. Half of the working age adults in the US either don't care to work or are unemployed due to a -2% current rate of job growth. So the video is erroneous on a number of levels.

I ascribe to the biblical concept, "If you don't work, you don't eat!" Was always a self starter and worked as an independent contractor for three different companies simultaneously, that's why as a retiree I can have a comfortable 6K per month income and not be dependent on someone else to provide for me. The former strength of America is built on it's people's work ethic.

I agree with Shantel. I have always been independant contracting or other things and every vacation I took I paid for myself but I had the liberty of taking vacations when I wanted and how often I wanted for how long I wanted but the trade off for that kind of freedom is it comes out of my profit margin. Not to mention missing out health insurance, dental and all the other benifits for working for big companies. And no job guarantess. But hey, for me the trade offs have been worth it and can now have a fun job or hobby mainly and let a sort of business run itself with good enough drivers with enough experience that I don't have to micromanage them or tell them what to do, the company I go through does all that.
