Media Matters

Summary: When a viewer email questioned his previous remarks that Bill Richardson "looked bad by saying he believed homosexuality was a choice," Fox News' Bill O'Reilly responded, "I think everybody's got to relax on all this gay stuff." But, as Media Matters for America has documented, O'Reilly has repeatedly demonstrated his own inability to "relax on all this gay stuff" with a history of controversial, misleading, and false claims about gays and lesbians.

I Oreilly's such an intellectual lightweight who uses his bully pullpit to yap at anything. His rhetorical skills are those of a 10 year old (being generous). What he does most, his cut people off mid sentence and expouse his own brand of misguided wisdom.

O'Reilly just has an authoritative voice and sometimes he uses expressions that indicate he is fair to both sides or has looked at all sides.  But, of course, he doesn't really try to be fair. But, I think by slipping neutral phrases in his speech, people who are controlled by the sound of an authoritative voice believe whatever his voice tells them too.
They are lulled into not thinking for themselves.

You are so right about O'Reilly. He can only knock people down and make them look stupid as he has the controls of his program. He does have a lot of people who do listen to him and believe him. So, being a lightweight can tell thousands of people, maybe a couple million, how to think and change the truth a little to make it sound good for his politics. The conservatives have a lot of pull in that they do have a lot of talk shows on the TV and people listen to them as they seem to know what they are talking about. The liberals try and keep talk shows but can't keep them on the air. Most liberals really don't watch a lot of TV and so in doing that we can't keep the ratings up on the talk shows that are liberal motivated. So they miss out on a lot of education and only preaching to the choir.

Plus liberals have no need to pretend to be right on every single topic.  If you don't tell people you know everything, they won't listen to you.
