Anyone ever read these books by Tanith Lee? They are absolutely brilliant and I found they really helped me come to terms with my gender issues. For those of who are not familiar with them, they are set in the far future where people live for millenia and can get entirely new bodies whenever they wish (within reason). These bodies can be whichever gender they prefer and it is not uncommon for people to switch between the two often. However, it's not unusual for some to have  amore natural affinity to one gender over another and sometimes act oddly if they are in the other gender from their usual preference. The books are about a youth (youth lasting millenia in itself) and her attempts to find menaing in her life (I say "her" as she has more affinity with being female rather than male). Really two of the best books I have ever read and I imagine many here would agree. You can buy them both in one edition called Biting the Sun: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Biting-Sun-Tanith-Lee/dp/0553581309
