He compulsively announces his value with his tucked-in privates, just as in some designers' W spread, taming that point of anxiety with the help of a mirror. This is key: even Rebellious Bill wants to be someone's It Girl, trying to captivate someone's desire in the mirror, seeing himself as captivating and captivated.
